This Saturday night July 7th, the Corey Helford Gallery will be presenting the sexy sci-fi inspired sculptures from Colin Christian and the street-inspired work of RISK with both showings the first solos with the Culver City space. We recently came across this stunning new installation from Tom Fruin in New York entitled Watertower. The NY-based artist’s sculptural creation, which is visible from Lower Manhattan, FDR Drive, and the Manhattan & Brooklyn Bridges, is built from salvaged plexiglass and steel throughout NYC sourced from a wide range of materials including old sign shops to closed-down artist studios and various warehouses. For those who haven’t seen them yet, you have until June 30th to check out nine visually intriguing sculptures from Venezuelan-American artist Rafael Barrios in New York. Featured in the Park Avenue Malls between 50th and 68th Streets, the slender works play like an optical illusion and almost appear like digital effects when seen in photos. Last month, AM stopped by the Hong Kong edition of the Daydreaming with… exhibition. Designed to marry music and visual art, this experience gathered some high profile names in the genres of music, art, film, photography, fashion and design. Last weekend, Patrick Martinez opened his solo show Lovely Day at the Known Gallery in the heart of LA. Continuing to display a creative versatility, the locally-based artist put a selection of pieces on the walls ranging from sculptural neon works, mixed media works, paintings, as well as a set of vending machines with custom made items. Haroshi – “The Battle At The Berrics V” Trophy

Sculptor Haroshi, known for his work with skateboards as his raw material, recently was asked to create the trophy for The Battle At The Berrics V. The finals, which went down this weekend, for the competition held at The Berrics, an indoor skatepark owned by professional skateboarders Steve Berra and Eric Koston will determine the winner of this double middle finger salute.
