Last week, the Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in New York hosted the opening of JR and José Parlá’s collaborative showing entitled The Wrinkles of the City, Havana. The joint works were based on the time they spent in Cuba a year ago painting street murals together (covered) as part of JR’s continuing project Wrinkles of the City where he photographs senior citizens and pastes their portraits on the walls of city buildings. Openings: Mike Shine – “Flotsam’s Harvest” @ White Walls

A couple months ago, White Walls in San Francisco played host to Flotsam’s Harvest by the Bolinas-based Mike Shine (featured). The exhibition consisted of an immersive installation featuring paintings, films, and performance art filled with symbolism and clues as to solve the dark “World Riddle” posed by Friedrich Nietzsche in his book, Thus Spake Zarathustra. Openings: Bom.K – “Vertiges et Somnolence” (Paris)

French graffiti artist Bom.k has launched his first ever solo show, Vertiges et Somnolence (Dizziness & Drowsiness), at Galerie Itinerrance in Paris, showcasing a series of large scale canvases, drawings, and sculptures. With a unique way to paint with spray cans, distorting caps for an ultimate precision of the lines, the founder of the Da Mental Vaporz crew invites the viewer into his world of disturbing hybrid creatures and urban landscapes. The result is breathtaking.

With rising notoriety, local artist Stacey Kozich’s Within Without Me exhibition kicked off the Roq la Rue Gallery’s new Pioneer Square location with a jam packed crowd. Rozich’s bright color palette drew in patrons as they made their way through the neighborhood’s monthly artwalk. The gallery was quickly filled as they explored the inner workings of the exhibition. Openings: JR – “The Wrinkles of the City” @ Galerie Henrik Springmann (Berlin)

As you have seen from our coverage of murals going up all over Berlin, JR (interviewed) was in town for a show. The Wrinkles of the City opened several weeks ago at Galerie Henrik Springmann with photographs, wheatpasted found objects, as well as a rare video installation from the French photograffeur. Just hours ago, Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki Gallery in Tokyo hosted the opening of KAWS‘ latest solo show entitled Ohh… The exhibition has been a long time coming for the NY-based artist’s fans and collectors in Japan, also home to his OriginalFake store. New York artist Andrew Kuo recently made his debut solo exhibition with Chelsea’s Marlborough Gallery.
