Streets / Releases: Saber x Zes (Los Angeles) & Originals

Like they did in 2014 (covered), the AWR/MSK affiliated SABER (interviewed) and ZES recently collaborated on another impressive mural in Los Angeles, this time at the American Tea Room building. The piece in Downtown was made possible with special thanks to Montana Colors USA, The Seventh Letter, as well as Branded Arts and is another example of the locally-based writers’ synergistic artistic energy. In addition to this, they have also just released artwork inspired by the wall they painted together – SABER’s Ape Shit Series and ZES’ Perseverare Series On Paper, […]

Previews: Katrin Fridriks – “New Wave” @ Circle Culture Gallery

To close a successful year, Katrin Fridriks is about to open a new solo with Circle Culture Gallery at their space in Hamburg on November 6th. From the preview photos and info we just received from the Icelandic artist’s worshop, New Wave looks like a coherent show of exclusively square shaped canvases focused on the law of gravity. These new works continue her Riding Awareness series in which paint is captured on the surface of her canvases while flowing and forming spontaneous and unplanned shapes. Seemingly calmer and […]

Showing: Felipe Pantone – “Stereodynamica” @ Backwoods Gallery

The residents and visitors of Melbourne have only few more days to check out a solo show by Felipe Pantone closing on October 25th at Backwoods Gallery. For his Australian debut, the Spain-based artist prepared a whole new body featuring his signature stereoscopic works on canvas and paper. Through analog methods of painting, using spraypaint and acrylic, the Argentinian-born is re-creating glitches, mistakes and other digital distortions. Using pixels, QR codes, grids, gradients and spectrums, his vibrant pieces stand out with their contrast of shapes, forms as […]

Showing: Saner – “Fragments of The Soul” @ Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens

Philadephia’s Magic Gardens’ galleries are currently hosting a show/installation by Edgar “Saner” Flores. For Fragments of The Soul, the artist transformed the spaces into his mythological playground, heavily influenced by Mexican culture and tradition. By creating site-specific murals, illustrations, video projections, and paintings created on salvaged material found locally, the idea of the exhibition is to explore what we have left behind in life and to expose the small, secret parts of our souls. Saner is a versatile artist equally active and confident with drawings, illustration, paintings and murals which is noticeable in this […]

Showing: Paul Wackers – “New Alphabet” @ Alice Gallery

New Alphabet, a solo from Paul Wackers will be showing through the rest of the week in Brussels at Alice Gallery. His imagery is almost collage-like in the way he puts together everyday objects, plants, and abstract shapes into one cohesive composition. Along with his signature color-filled paintings that can be seen as a modern take on still life portraits, he also produced some pieces that were in black and white. Upcoming: Mark Ryden – “Dodecahedron” @ Paul Kasmin Gallery

While attending this year’s Baby Tattooville, we heard the exciting news from Mark Ryden himself of his imminent return to the New York art scene with a new solo. Dodecahedron is scheduled to open on December 10th at Paul Kasmin Gallery (293 Tenth Avenue location), the site of the Los Angeles-based artist’s showing in NYC in 2010 (covered). The title of the exhibition, teaser images seen in this article, and a previous sculptural edition from Ryden can gives us perhaps some clues into what we will see […]

After sharing with you the first batch of murals for this year’s Forest For The Trees, here is now a look at some of the more recently finished walls for the event. Organizers Gage Hamilton and Matt Wagner of Hellion Gallery put together a strong roster for 2015 and these latest photos feature work from Andrew Hem (seen above), Gage Hamilton himself, Michael Reader, Michael Salter, as well as a collaboration between INSA & Zach Johnson on a “giffiti.” Check out some more photos below and see if you can locate them […]

Showing: RUN – “Man Is God” @ Howard Griffin Gallery

Showing through the end of the month at Howard Griffin Gallery is a new solo from Giacomo Bufarini a.k.a. RUN, a followup to his show with the gallery last year (covered). The Italian artist has made his name painting his iconic characters around the world with their recognizable large heads. For Man Is God, he takes this to the next level with large three-dimensional representations that almost take on a sacred feel like the Easter Island heads. This installation is surrounded by ceremonial banners that cover the walls […]
