Featuring two distinct bodies of work that share references to American paintings from The White House Art Collection as well as those held in prestigious museums nationwide, the work is a reflection of how the Denver-based artist sees politics in our currently divided country. Recap: Aron Wiesenfeld – “Natural Selection” @ Arcadia Gallery

This last weekend, the hauntingly beautiful Aron Wiesenfeld show at Arcadia Contemporary closed its two week run. Natural Selection featured a new body of work from the San Diego-based artist, rendered expertly as usual and steeped with an air of mystery. His characters are typically portrayed by themselves in a desolate, dark setting or perhaps in some expansive natural environment where the viewer is drawn into some suspenseful narrative that they aren’t quite sure of. There is a feeling of not-quite-rightness and an atmospheric tension to each piece […]

Entitled Clouds Through The Window, the new exhibition features the majority of the Spanish artist’s fresh output arranged on one wall like an old cabinet of curiosities. Nine paintings of different scales featuring the Nara protege’s cartoonish portraiture dominate one side in the middle of the space, further accented by custom frames created by a carver […]

Coming up next month, Hashimoto Contemporary’s New York space will be hosting a solo showing from Erik Jones entitled Country. Judging from the work-in-progress photos from his studio outside of Chicago, the new body of work will continue his recent series of surreal portraits that treat the extremities and appendages like colorful Gumby-like extensions of the body. Along with these ethereal fabric replicas of his former homes in South Korea, New York, Berlin, and London, the exhibition also includes scale models, photography, drawings, and videos.
