On September 19th, On Our Hands at Jacob Lewis Gallery will be Shepard Fairey’s (featured) first solo in New York since 2010. Upcoming: Takashi Murakami – “The 500 Arhats” @ Mori Art Museum

Coming up on October 31st, Takashi Murakami will be unveiling his first solo exhibition in Japan in over 14 years. The title The 500 Arhats at the Mori Art Museum references the piece that will be the showstopper, a 100-meter-long painting which was created as a thank you to the nation of Qatar, one of the first to offer assistance after the earthquake and tsunami in 2011 in Japan. Showing: Revok – “Revok” @ Ruttkowski;68

With his most recent solo show titled Revok, Jason Williams aka REVOK introduced his latest concepts and works at Ruttkowski;68 in Cologne, Germany. Opened on August 14th, the show will stay on view until September 27th. The title of the shows refers to the concept of identity that he has been exploring since 1990, when he adopted the name as his alias. REVOK was only a tag or a pseudonym when he started out as a graffiti artist, but later on it became a frame within which he can define himself without social constraints. […]

Releases: Josh Keyes – “A Whole New World” Print

On August 25th, Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be making new print available through the Antler Gallery website at 11 am PDT and cost $275. The signed and numbered edition is slated for a run of 200 with the measurements at a paper size of 18″x34″ and image size of 15.5″x30.5″. A percentage from the sale of each print will be donated to Big Cats Initiative. Streets / Releases: Ludo (New York)

Ludo (interviewed) is currently in NYC working with the brand new printing company NYC editions. Invited in town to participate in their upcoming show opening on August 15th at Castor Gallery, as well as produce a new hand finished limited edition print with them, the French artist also took the opportunity to create some public works in the city as well. Openings: D*Face – ‘Wasted Youth’ @ CAC Malaga

CAC Málaga, in collaboration with the British Council, recently opened up the first solo exhibition in Spain from D*Face (interviewed). The London-based artist’s work was seen for the first time in Málaga in 2013 when he created an immense mural for the MAUS Project (covered) along with Shepard Fairey. Previews: Tim Biskup – “Space Madness” @ Kong Art Space

For his first time in Hong Kong, Tim Biskup (featured) will be opening a show on August 27th at the Kong Art Space entitled Space Madness. The title of the exhibition references one of the Los Angeles-based artist’s first influences for his cartoon-like imagery – Ren & Stimpy, an animated TV show. Another inspiration of his, the work of  Roberto Matta, was also listed as a touchpoint for the new vibrant and colorful pieces. Discuss Tim Biskup here.

Cai Guo-Qiang – “Sky Ladder” (China)

Explosive Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang recently successfully unleashed his Sky Ladder over Huiyu Island in Quanzhou to celebrate his grandmother’s 100th birthday. This fourth and final attempt is a culmination of 21 years of hard work to realize a vision he had when he was a child. Assisted by a helium balloon and ladder covered with pyrotechnics, the stunning display rose 500 meters into the air and lasted two and a half minutes. Upcoming: Brendan Monroe – “Morphology” @ Heath Ceramics (San Francisco)

After a fantastic showing at Heath Ceramics in Los Angeles last year (covered), Brendan Monroe (interviewed) will be next putting new works on display soon at their San Francisco location. Morphology in the Boiler Room will continue the locally-based artist’s collaboration with the manufacturer of artisan pottery, a perfect way for Monroe to bring to life in a new way his organic and science-based imagery.
