Last year, entry level collectors were pleased to see Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles put on an Art Collector Starter Kit group show (covered) featuring some artists from their roster. After sharing photos with you earlier this week from Tomokazu Matsuyama’s (interviewed) current showcase at Harbour City in Hong Kong, we now have word of what comes next at the Tsim Sha Tsui hotspot. Starting on September 18th, KAWS will make a return appearance with an ambitious new sculpture in the Ocean Terminal forecourt, site where his previous massive Passing Through companion was situated in 2010 (covered). Previews: Yoskay Yamamoto – “rainy day with a chance of sun” @ Hellion Gallery

On October 2nd, the Hellion Gallery in Portland will be presenting new works from Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) tentatively entitled rainy day with a chance of sun. Like his recent showing in Los Angeles (covered), the new whimsical body of work will consist of paintings, clusters of smaller works, and his hand-crafted wooden sculptures. Mecka NYC is introducing an interesting project titled INSIDE/OUT, a unique, new event that will merge an exhibition, social media hunt, and fund raising event for Swoon’s (interviewed) ongoing Braddock Tiles event. The show will open on August 23 from 5pm – 9pm at Hotel Particulier in NYC, with the art hunt begining on the same day at 10am. The Los Angeles-based Sam Falls recently returned to Brooklyn for an outdoor project with the help of The Public Art Fund. Entitled Light Over Time, this exhibition held in the MetroTech Center courtyard clearly brings Fall’s installation magic into the outdoor setting. There are five sculptural works placed in select locations that invite the viewer to interact with the pieces. Streets: Swoon for Djerbahood (Tunisia)

Another artist who traveled to Tunisia for the Djerbahood Project (coverage here) was the Brooklyn-based Swoon (interviewed). She joined the long list of artists invited by Galerie Itinerrance to beautify the North African island. Working with her distinctive imagery and the village architecture, she certainly put up some compelling pieces for the locals to enjoy. After putting in her time on this project, she returned home to learn that she was nominated for the Smithsonian Biennial James Dicke Contemporary Artist Prize. Opening on September 25th, Unnatural Histories III will be will be the third in a series (see 2013) of shows at Antler Gallery featuring portraits of mythical creatures. Along with the piece from Josh Keyes (seen above), works from Vanessa Foley, Michael Page, Craww, Syd Bee, Brin Levinson, Ryan Berkley, Ben Kehoe, Siolo Thompson, Susannah Kelly, Annie Owens, Niel M. Florentijn Hofman’s Giant Rubber Duck (Los Angeles)

For fans in Los Angeles who looked at Hong Kong in envy as Florentijn Hofman’s giant “rubber” duck (covered) rolled into the harbor, your time has come. The whimsical inflatable childhood bath toy will be viewable at the Tall Ships Festival from August 20-24 starting today when the oversized duck (61 feet, 11 tons, about 85 feet wide and about 110 feet long) will lead the Grand Parade of Sail into San Pedro at 2 pm.
