Previews: KAWS @ Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA)

There are only few days left before Brooklyn-based artist, KAWS opens his solo show at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia on October 11th. As previously mentioned the artist is working on the institution’s inaugural plinth sculpture, but also, these days he is busy installing his paintings in the galleries of the Historic Landmark Building. From the photos taken from KAWS’ Instagram, we can see that he has prepared a whole new series of his signature tondos in different sizes, but also, a new series of square canvases/panels. […]

Openings: Ian Davenport – “Colorfall” @ Paul Kasmin

Now through October 26th at Paul Kasmin Gallery, British artist and YBA alumnus Ian Davenport has an exhibition of new paintings titled Colorfall. Known for his colorful “puddle” abstract paintings, Davenport brings brilliantly chromatic canvases, a spectrum of more or less evenly painted stripes cascading down before some unseen current disrupts their flow, transforming them into swirling eddies of colors mixing together. Next up at Shooting Gallery in SF is A Well-Marked Path, featuring new works by Oakland-based artist, Lauren Napolitano. AM recently brought you a preview of Antler Gallery’s Unnatural Histories II exhibition including the first look at the Josh Keyes‘ work in the group show. As we mentioned last month, JR (interviewed) is returning to London after five years with a two-part solo exhibition, ACTIONS, at Lazarides Rathbone and multiple sites across the capital. The Inside / Out photobooth truck showed up last week and Londoners’ black and white portraits were pasted alongside the Somerset House. Releases: Audrey Kawasaki – “Offering” Print

In a couple hours, 9AM PDT to be exact, Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) will start releasing her new print “Offering” on the Thinkspace online store. It measures 18 x 18″, is signed and numbered, and will come in an edition of 400 for $235. For those that miss out on the 200 that will be available today, next week on Saturday, October 12th at 12pm PDT, the rest will be available on the Audrey Kawasaki Shop (with a framing option as well). The 2013 British Ceramics Biennial which opened in Stoke-on-Trent on 28 September, celebrates the best in contemporary ceramics through a six-week programme of exhibitions, installations and events. One of the installations, Take Stock by Lawrence Epps, has been created from 12,000 ceramic office workers, which visitors to the biennial will be invited to take away with them.
