Preview: Luke Chueh – “Bearing the Unbearable” Signing @ Spoke Art

Tomorrow night (July 5th) in San Francisco, Luke Chueh (interviewed) will be continuing his Bearing the Unbearable book signing tour (see Los Angeles). Also, of interest to Bay Area fans will be the release of new prints from his popular sushi series of paintings, with the originals created for a 2009 showing in LA. Back in March, we introduced you to a new line of prints from Jeff Soto (interviewed) entitled Seeker Friends. The series of limited editions were from Prints On Wood with each one available for 24 hours after a specified date and time. Each 6″ x 6″ print costs $25 + shipping with $1 of every sale going to plant one tree through the Plant A Billion Trees program. Over the weekend, the C.A.V.E. Gallery hosted the opening reception for Kid Acne’s (interviewed) newest solo entitled Stand & Deliver. The UK-based artist brought a selection of work to the Venice showspace featuring his “stabby women,” some of which was set against a backdrop of a patterned motif seen frequently in his street work. Openings: Shawn Barber – “Memoir: The Tattooed Portraits Series” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last week in New York, the Joshua Liner Gallery played host to artist and tattoo specialist Shawn Barber’s (interviewed) new solo – Memoir: The Tattooed Portraits Series. The new body of work features portraits of notables in the body inking subculture (many of them the painter’s close friends) as well works featuring various selections of tattoo paraphernalia. A new artist here to AM this week for our Art Focus feature is also opening a show tonight, June 30th, at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery.
