Streets: Ernest Zacharevic (New York)

A couple of days ago, Ernest Zacharevic made this new playful yet emotive intervention on the streets of NYC. Titled Human Flow, the piece was directly inspired by Ai Weiwei’s documentary from which the artist borrowed the title, feeling the urge to produce a work that passes along its important message. Showing: Laura Berger – “The Sun Is Between Us” @ Andenken gallery

Andeken Gallery in Amsterdam is currently hosting the European debut solo exhibition from Laura Berger titled The Sun Is Between Us. For this showcase, the Chicago-based artist created a series of new acrylics on cradled wood panels along with ceramic sculptures from her Lapis Sculptura series. Using the female figure as the focus subject in her work, Berger creates simple flat imagery using a limited color palette of clay-like hues. Showing: Javier Calleja – “I hope you don’t mind” @ Yusto/Giner Gallery

Earlier this month, Yusto/Giner in Spain opened a solo show from Javier Calleja entitled I hope you don’t mind. Filling the gallery space of his hometown of Malaga, the new body of work features cartoonish portraits of his doe-eyed children mixed in with text like “Hero”, “I Hope You Don’t Mind”, and “Here And Now.” Rounding out the rest of exhibition from the Nara protege is a 3D figure as well as an emphatic “Done” painted on the walls next to one of his works. Releases: Glenn Barr – “Otaku Print Set”

Currently available through July 10th, an “Otaku Print Set” featuring the work of Glenn Barr is available at 1xRUN. Compiling four 11 x 13″ prints together (Used Heroes, Godzilla’s Ghost, Astro Defiance, Monster Zero), the Detroit-based artist has created images that fanboys will instantly notice with characters like Astroboy, Ultraman, and Godzilla populating his surreal world. Recap: Pejac – “Waterline” (Paris)

For a just a few days leading up and through the last weekend, Pejac held a special showing of his work inside an old ‘péniche’ boat moored right next to Notre-Dame. Entitled Waterline, the exhibition consisted of around 30 drawings and studies on paper as well as a couple clever installations. Evident in the work displayed were some elements of the Spanish artist’s work that make him special including commentary on environmental and socio-political issues, art history references, technical skill, and his dark humor. Upcoming: Haroshi – “NANZUKA at Petzel” @ Petzel Gallery

As part of the second New York edition of Condo, a gallery share program conceived of as an alternative to the traditional art fair, Nanzuka Gallery from Tokyo will opening a show at Petzel Gallery (35 E 67th Street location) on June 29th. The resulting three person exhibition (also featuring Makoto Taniguchi & Mori Masato), sees Haroshi (featured) putting 29 of his half kaiju half wood monsters on display. Previews: Shawn Huckins – “Fool’s Gold” @ Modernism Gallery

Coming up on July 11th, Shawn Huckins (featured) will opening a solo show at Modernism Gallery in San Francisco. Entitled Fool’s Gold, the exhibition will feature 18 works from the Denver-based artist’s The Erasures series, replicated paintings from The White House Art Collection with seemingly randomly painted erasure marks superimposed over top – the familiar gray and white checkered pattern signifies a software’s ‘eraser’ tool has removed the underlying image.
