Openings: Mark Jenkins – “Glazed Paradise” @ Gestalten

Last week in Berlin, Gestalten hosted installation artist Mark Jenkins’ (interviewed) first solo show in Germany, Glazed Paradise. The American artist staged his startlingly lifelike sculptural works throughout the space to the delight of showgoers as they bravely roamed the gallery area. Openings: “Obey Your Master: A Metallica Tribute” @ Exhibit A

Last Friday, Exhibit A opened up its gallery doors to a multitude of artists all paying tribute to the legendary heavy metal band Metallica. Titled Obey Your Master, the exhibit featured artists such as Shepard Fairey, Travis Louie, David Stoupakis, Nicola Verlato, Brian Viveros, and Richard Villa III just to name a few. Teaser: Jeremy Geddes @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

As we mentioned first all the way back in 2010, Jeremy Geddes (interviewed) will be introducing a new body of work at his highly anticipated solo at Jonathan LeVine later this year. The first glimpse of this New York showing is this final Cluster painting from the Melbourne-based artist, which also sounds like it might be released as a print at some point. Teaser: Amy Sol – “Numina” @ Corey Helford Gallery

It has been over a year since Amy Sol (interviewed) showed at Corey Helford Gallery where she will be returning for a solo coming up in March. This newest painting, entitled Bonfire, sees the Las Vegas-based painter continuing to hone in on a more on her central characters as well as develop more depth to her works, some of which we saw first hand at a recent group show in Los Angeles. Releases: Kaws – “Partners” Figure

KAWS fans out there will be pleased to know that the next figure from the street turned contemporary artist has dropped. Partners features a sculpt of the artist standing next to his companion figure. If this looks familiar, it’s because you probably have seen the statue at Disneyland featuring Walt Disney standing next to Mickey Mouse although not cringing like in this version. Geoff McFetridge, who recently dazzled us with his collaborations and showing with Heath Ceramics, traveled up north a bit to the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for a solo exhibition at their University Art Gallery.
