Openings: Lisa Yuskavage – “New Paintings” @ David Zwirner

AM recently witnessed the return of Lisa Yuskavage to David Zwirner as the New York based artist unveiled a new series of paintings in her third show with the gallery since 2006. Seen were her classic female nudes depicted in cartoonish yet erotic compositions. The color palettes she selected were vibrant, rich and diverse which complimented her wide selection of environments well. Ranging from outdoor to indoor settings, the Yuskavage placed her psychologically-charged characters in a variety of situations to draw the viewers into the […]

Openings: MODE 2 – “Offerings” @ Lucas Carrieri Gallery

British graffiti writer and fine artist MODE 2 recently held a solo exhibition of fresh works at Germany’s Lucas Carrieri Gallery. With this being his first solo show in Berlin, the series entitled Offerings consisted of large canvases that centered around the raw female form. A first impression might be that it’s just gratuitous nudity for the sake of display, but if you’ve followed the work of MODE 2, you can see the raw forms and voluptuous curves point to the complexity of the female […]

Earlier this week, Elms Lesters hosted the opening for a set of new works collectively and aptly entitled Dimensional Paintings from the inventive Adam Neate (interviewed). While his landmark solo in 2009 at the same London gallery introduced his fans to the new textures and three-dimensional aspects of his new work, this latest exhibition shows a maturity, refinement, and comfort in the technique that is evident in the impressive depth and complexity of the pieces currently on view. He even included some updated old […]

Entitled Trash, the body of work is a massive departure from the body of work showing concurrently at Rome’s Palazzo Rospigliosi and stays true to its signifier in […]
