Preview: Yumiko Kayukawa – “Coming Home” @ Roq La Rue

Tonight at Roq La Rue, Japanese artist Yumiko Kayukawa will be introducing a new body of work in her home city entitled Coming Home, which will also be her first solo at the gallery since 2002. The Seattle-based painter has been working to expand her narrative since her show in San Francisco in March (covered) and continues her fascination with her female protagonists and their animal friends presented in complex compositions. Portuguese artist, Pedro Matos opened his first U.S. solo show entitled Ephemera at Shooting Gallery Saturday night (previewed). A couple of weeks ago, AM paid a visit to Mark Whalen aka Kill Pixie’s studio as he was putting the final touches on his latest collection which will debut this coming weekend at the Merry Karnowksy Gallery. Kid Zoom, whom we last caught up with at his New York solo show, was recently featured in a video by Kingbrown Magazine. The detailed footage captures his can control and skills with spray paint quite well and will give you an idea of what to expect for the Young & Free show opening in San Francisco on September 10th at the 941 Geary. Tucson will be getting a dose of the New Contemporary Art Movement tomorrow, September 8th, when Impetus opens at the University of Arizona School of Art.
