Last Friday, Kelsey Brookes opened his show “Bigger, Brighter, Bolder” in San Diego at Quint Contemporary Art. Based on the studio shots, we already had high expectations for this important show from the young artist. Kelsey certainly delivered on all the hype with a stunning new body of work, and yes, nothing beats seeing the paintings up on the actual walls. Openings: Candice Tripp – “Tiny Drama” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Opening along side Kris Kuksi (covered) this weekend at Joshua Liner Gallery, Candice Tripp (interviewed) made her New York debut with a fabulous showing. The large body of work was chock full of witty spins on traditional wives’ tales told in a unique point of view that only Candice can have. The pieces certainly didn’t disappoint, with the detailed work taking viewers on a “trippy” journey. Check out all the pics after the jump.

JR @ Abu Dhabi Art Fair

Looks like intrepid traveler, JR, added Abu Dhabi on the list of places he has visited with his street photography. To coincide with the annual Abu Dhabi Art Fair, the french wheatpaster was asked to create a large scale installation for the increasingly art-infused capital of the arab emirate. Last week, the fantastic “Inside Out, Outside In” group show at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) opened its doors showcasing work from six Brazilian street artists Titi Freak, Zezão, Stephan Doitschinoff, Ramon Martins, Carlos Dias and Daniel Melim. Luckily, our correspondent Layla K was on hand to document the exhibition curated by Choque Cultural featuring paintings, murals, and large-scale installations. More pics after the jump…

Phaidon Press recently released this intriguing title by world renowned art dealer, collector and ad man Charles Saatchi. Known for his reclusive nature, Saatchi has apparently stepped into the spotlight to answer 200 questions from journalists, art critics and members of the public, all with unabashed honesty. On Saturday night, AM was on hand to experience the surreal sculptures of Kris Kuksi as Joshua Liner Gallery hosted the opening of his latest show the “Beast Anthology.” As seen in our preview of the show, the show looked like a literal monster, but nothing prepared us for seeing the work in person. AM got hooked on Tristram Lansdowne’s urban landscape paintings when we saw his work featured earlier this year at Joshua Liner Gallery’s summer group show (covered), so we tried to find out as much as we could about this exciting young artist. We recently stopped by Glowlab in NYC to check out “The Eventuality of Daybreak,” the new body of work from Alex Lukas. The solo exhibition from the Philly-based artist revealed a batch of works that highlighted desolate apocalyptic landscapes of major cities which depict a possible near future where these metropolises are literally submerged through coastal flooding. Alex works with various techniques including acrylic, ink, silkscreen, gouache to get his images and points across. The work was not only intricately put together, but also reasonably priced. Openings: Deth P. Sun – “Please Be Brave” @ Giant Robot 2

Last weekend, Deth P. Sun (fresh off his Giant Robot Biennale exhibition), opened “Please Be Brave,” a new body of work at Giant Robot 2 on Sawtelle Street. The centerpiece of the show was this fantastic assemblage (above) made up of individual 5″ x 5″ paintings. Not only does this make each piece affordable but also allows a collector to put together their own combination at home from selected pieces. More images after the jump…
