After the onslaught of openings across the globe last weekend, things have calmed down a bit. Leading the charge this week is the second year of the FAME Festival in Italy. If you’ve been following our coverage of the show thus far, you already know it is by far the place to be this weekend and as always, keep it locked on AM for coverage of the opening night events. Check out the full details for the FAME Festival and all the other shows going off […]

Openings: Brian Donnelly – “Blasphemies, Monstrosities, & Other Perversions @ Show & Tell Gallery

We recently previewed a couple of pieces from Brian Donnelly’s solo outing “Blasphemies, Monstrosities, & Other Perversions,” which opened last week at Show and Tell Gallery in Toronto.  We thought the pieces we saw looked like a strong indication that Donnelly would be putting together a compelling body of work. Well, boy, were we right! Check out the pictures from the opening after the jump.

Openings: Barry McGee @ Biennale de Lyon

Barry McGee’s participation in the annual Biennale de Lyon was cause for excitement in the AM offices, especially after seeing some video footage.  Some photos surfaced this morning of the opening of the immersive installation Mr. Twist graced the French with (consisting of some new and old elements).  Looks like McGee went all out with tagged overturned vans, paintings, classic patterned pieces, just an overall aweseom exhibit. More pics after the jump…

Openings: Takashi Murakami – “Self Portraits” @ Emmanuel Perrotin

You’d think an artist would slowdown to take it all in after a series of major retrospectives. If it’s Takashi Murakami, then you thought wrong. Since his monstrous retrospective tour ended this past Feburary in Spain, Murakami has been on a tear, creating bodies of work on almost every medium you can imagine – sculpture, canvas, print, vinyl, animation, you name it – he’s put his team from Kaikai Kiki to work. The problem is, each show usually featured only one facet of his artistic endeavors. So […]
