Openings: Travis Louie – “Portrait Of A Young Monster”

Last Friday, Travis Louie’s (interviewed) opened his show “Portrait Of A Young Monster” at Roq La Rue.  There were a total of eight paintings with the largest being “The Ghost Of Abigail” at 31″ x 19″ (above). So what is behind his paintings of “monsters” and misfits on the outskirts of normalcy? We think a particularly insightful answer to this question posed by our friend Commandax to Travis describes perfectly what his work is about: “Mistaken identity… being judged solely on one’s appearance… racism. The characters […]

FAME Festival – Word to Mother

UK’s Word to Mother (interviewed) has just finished a lovely mural at FAME Festival (our coverage here). Word’s soft colors and sketched lines fit really well into the environment the artists have been working in. This piece forms a nice continuation to his solo exhibition, “Young Mind, Old Soul,” at Fifty24SF (covered) earlier in the year. See a more detailed shot of the figure to the right after the jump.

Some more in progress shots as well as a quick look around the studio after the jump…

Cherri Wood focuses solely on canvas works for this show, continuing to express her thoughts on isolation and idiosyncrasies through her characters. Rounding out the pack is […]
