Preview: Chris Anthony – “Venice” @ Corey Helford (Special Exhibition Space)

Award winning photographer Chris Anthony is back with a new series of works hosted Corey Helford Gallery opening March 28th. The show entitled “Venice” is set to a theme where the world is submerged in an icy, overcast, and flooded landscape. Think of intriguing subjects shot and showcased in a dreary “Waterworld” setting. Breaking into the scene and hitting his stride as a photographer of gaudy rock bands while just a teenager, Chris then took some time off after “retiring” at the age of 17 to direct music videos and commercials. […]

Interviews: Todd Schorr

Todd Schorr’s show, “The World We Live In,” is fast approaching, set to open this Saturday, March 28th at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. Seen above is Schorr in his studio, holding up one of the smaller paintings for the show. As we have seen from this body of work so far, some of the show looks to be an outgrowth from the large “Ape Worship” painting that was part of the “Land of Retinal Delights” exhibit at the Laguna Art Museum. After completing […]

The twins from Sao Paulo brings their visual parade to the CCBB of Rio de Janerio (Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil). This show opens today and runs until May 24th.  Known for their yellow skinned characters rocking colorful festive garbs, these two brothers have been creating awesome murals and fresh installations all over the world, both inside and out. From the looks of things, this show is vintage […]

Shepard Fairey hits up Austin for SXSW Festival

Shepard Fairey did some urban “spring cleaning” in Austin this past weekend in time for the SXSW Festival. Visiting the Lone Star state with buckets of wheat paste and some good old fashion Obey elbow grease, Shepard hit up many prominent spots including Lance Armstrong’s Bike Shop: Mellow Johnny’s, Red 7, Emos, Home Slice, and many more. We have some awesome in-progress pics of gorgeous murals being put up by the man himself. Shepard Fairey’s 2009 “Hat Trick” list: January – Washington DC: Inauguration & Manifest […]

Openings: Luke Chueh – “From Light Cometh Darkness” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Luke Chueh’s “From Light Cometh Darkness” (previewed) opened last night at Corey Helford Gallery. Anticipating a big crowd, AM dropped by Corey Helford about an hour before the show opening to take pictures of Luke’s artwork. It is a good thing we did, as there were already Luke Chueh fans eagerly waiting outside of the gallery when we arrived. When the gallery doors finally opened at 7pm, Luke Chueh did not disappoint. There was a very positive vibe throughout the entire night and Luke’s work was well […]

Armory Focus: Mizuma Art @ Armory NYC

Japan’s Mizuma gallery made quite a splash at this year’s Armory, selling out most of the art they imported from the land of the rising sun. As usual, their booth was filled with some of Japan’s notables: Akino Kondoh, Sashie Masakatsu, Makoto Aida, Aoyama Satoru, and Tanada Koji to name a few. We were hoping to catch more of Sashie’s work, but like in Pulse Miami (covered), he sold out quickly. Another piece we saw was a beautiful piece by Ai Yamaguchi. The centerpiece of the gallery was a magnificent […]

Preview: “Overdose” Hi-Fructose Group Show @ Copro Gallery

After their highly successful group show last year, Hi-Fructose is back again with another exhibition, this time titled “Overdose,” opening April 4th at Copro Gallery.  With a increasingly more respected reputation as one of the best publications in the scene, they been able to assemble a pretty amazing lineup.  Sure to be one of the showstoppers is this huge 50 x 50 inch Chris Berens piece seen above.  See some other preview pics as well as the full lineup after the jump.

Openings: Word to Mother – “Lost for Words” @ StolenSpace

Last night saw the opening of Word to Mother’s third exhibition, “Lost for Words,” (teased) at StolenSpace Gallery in London.  After the success of his two previous shows, Word to Mother took control of the larger Drayton Walk gallery and filled it with an array of new work and found objects including a stranded landlocked boat mysteriously filled with vintage magazines, violin cases, paintings and other ephemera.  Most work was on salvaged wood or metal and featured classic Word to Mother characters as well as […]
