Openings: Jim Houser & Richard Colman @ White Walls

Jim Houser and Richard Colman’s “Awful Mountain” (previewed) opened last night at White Walls in SF. As usual, Houser’s installations complemented his paintings perfectly. If only collectors could have him go to their houses and setup the pieces they own in a similar fashion. On November 6th, Greg “Craola” Simkins will open the second and final part of his bi-coastal show at Gallery 1988 in LA. Entitled “It Wanders West,” it looks to be a tremendous show picking up right where “It Wanders East“ at Joshua Liner Gallery left off. Next Thursday, Carmichael Gallery will open up a great group show featuring the works of Case, Charming Baker, Ian Strawn, Guy Denning, and TRXTR. The opening reception is Nov 6th from 8pm to Midnight. The preview images for Kukula’s show “Princess Express” (previously teased) which opens on November 8th at Copronason are now online.Â You really get a feeling that her work has matured as you look through her paintings.Â Her details, “story-telling,” and composition really look to have taken a step up while maintining some of the edginess from before (bleeding hearts, injured animals, scratch marks, suggestive outfits). This panel will includeÂ Shepard FaireyÂ (artist), Charming BakerÂ (artist), Jon Reis (Filmmaker), Shana Nys Dambrot (Art Critic/Editor), and Cindy Cronk (Modern Art auction house specialist). Looks like there is a pretty good show being put together at Dorothy Circus Gallery called “Inside Nostalgia” that is opening Halloween night.Â It’s a three person show featuring Tara McPherson, Esao Andrews, and Travis Louie as well as a large group show in the back gallery featuring: Natalie Shau, David Stoupakis, Camille Rose Garcia, Zoe Lacchei, Naoto Hattori, Prunelle, Silvia Idili, Andy Fluon, Paul Chatem, Ciou, Elena Rapa, Adam Wallacavage, and Arash Radpour. Kehinde Wiley @ Deitch Projects

Down, an exhibition of new paintings by Kehinde Wiley, opens this Saturday at Deitch Projects. The exhibition supposedly will consist of four large-scale paintings inspired by images of fallen warriors, saints and classical mythology.
