Preview: Dan McCarthy @ Gallery 1988 – Melrose

After a successful showing there in 2010, Dan McCarthy (interviewed) returns to the Gallery 1988 gallery on Melrose for his second solo exhibition there. Drawing from his New England scenery and the changing seasons, there’s sure to be some beautiful originals and limited editions up for grabs at the opening August 5th, this Friday. Summer group shows during the traditional down time for galleries is a good way to gauge the direction a gallery is going. Tonight, besides Ewelina and Genevive Zacconi’s joint show (previewed), the Copro Gallery will also be hosting a group exhibition entitled Genesis to Revelation. Artists were asked to re-interpret the religious symbology and icons from thousands of years ago about creation and the apocalypse in their own special way. Preview: Femke Hiemstra – “Big Thousands of Golden Flowers” @ Merry Karnowsky

This Saturday night, July 30th, Femke Hiemstra will be joining Audrey Kawasaki, whose works we previewed yesterday, and Deedee Cheriel for a show at Merry Karnowsky Gallery. Known for her detailed paintings (often on found objects) of her cast of animal characters set in surreal scenes and compositions, the Dutch painter will be taking viewers of this new body of work on a fairytale journey into mythical worlds of her imagination.
