José Parlá, whose artwork is rarely exhibited in Los Angeles, will soon provide the West Coast with a spectacular visual treat as Martha Otero will feature his massively-sized (42″ by 116.5″) Flux in their Legal Tender group exhibition. Other artists in the show include: E.V. Day, Dzine, John Espinosa, Rob Fischer, Matt Greene, Adam Janes, Brad Kahlhamer, Travis LeRoy Southworth, and Jen Stark. Preview: Melissa Forman – “Keepers of Creation” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Tonight at Corey Helford Gallery, Melissa Forman will be opening her show “Keepers of Creation” consisting of 16 new paintings. Forman’ mystical female portraiture sets out to portray the characters as protectors of natural world and are wonderfully detailed. This Saturday, Guerrero Gallery is going to present a show featuring works of art that gets back to the basics of craftsmanship. In a world of digital media, design and virtuality, three artists (AJ Fosik, Ben Venom and Erin Riley) have been creating their path through wood, embroidery and tapestry respectively. Some weeks back, AM spent time with Ernesto Yerena Montejano at his garage studio in Los Angeles. Over the course of three and a half years, until summer 2009, Yerena worked as an artist assistant for Shepard Fairey at both Studio Number One and Studio Number Two (featured). We were able to have a look around as he now prepared for GANAS 2020, his debut solo show which opens this Saturday, November 13th at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco and runs until December 4th. This Saturday night, November 13th, Carmichael Gallery will be holding a “Block Party” in Culver City with a group exhibition from Boxi, Krystian Truth Czaplicki, Gregor Gaida, Simon Haas, Sixeart, and Dan Witz. Tomorrow night in Seattle, two artists we have our eyes on, Femke Hiemstra and Ryan Heshka will be opening a show together at the Roq La Rue Gallery. Femke hails from the Netherlands and will be bringing a new body of work entitled “The Bone Shaped Bone” featuring her imaginative paintings, often on found objects like the book seen above.
