Come this weekend at ModoBrussels, Rotterdam based American artist Abner Preis will be debuting his latest work “The Super Hero Project”. Abner and various individuals will take to the streets done up as masked superheroes. By dressing the right way and utilizing the hidden facade of the “superhero”, the participants explore the freedom to be whomever they want to be. Which begs the question… is it that simple to change your personality with a simple device as a mask or costume? Check out this cool […]

We love a little China Mike in our lives, so when AM heard that Mike will be showing in Manchester as part of a group show entitled “Pain(t) and Ink”, opening on the October 23rd, we thought we would let you know. Check out this new piece from him above that seems to be a continuation of the new style of figurative works he recently presented in New York at Bold Hype Gallery. Preview: Loreta Sáez Franco – “The Highlights” @ Keep Smiling Gallery (London)

Whilst AM was in London last week, we bumped into Spanish artist and London resident Loreta Sáez Franco at the Frieze Art Fair. She told us of her solo exhibition opening in London this Thursday, October 21st and showed us some images of the work. “The Highlights” are bold colour compositions steeped in the traditions of abstraction and expressionism, and the exhibition also features a series of works the Central St Martins graduate calls her “wallpapers”. These pieces take the form of “The Highlights” artworks and […]

Beyond Eden ’10: Overview

For those of you who missed it, we have a photo summary of this year’s Beyond Eden Art Fair. We’ve highlighted certain aspects of the event already, but this will give you an overview of the type of art that was seen this year (like the Dabs Myla piece seen above). Over three thousand people attended the second annual fair that is the only one of it’s kind highlighting the so-called New Contemporary art movement, and hopefully next year, it will continue to grow and […]

Preview: Nathan Ota x Risk @ Hurley Space

Take a look at the date of the photo above. It was taken almost 25 years ago of Nathan Ota (who recently opened his solo in LA) and RISK (of MSK fame). And yes, surprisingly like many of the fine artists we follow, Nathan had a background in graffiti. After losing touch for a long time, the duo have reunited for a collaboration mural at the Hurley Space in Orange County. Stop by to take a look for yourself on Saturday, October 16th (6-10pm) and […]

Preview: Chris Berens – “Leeuwenhart” @ Roq La Rue

In many respects, we here at AM have the wonderful purveyors of Roq La Rue to thank for opening our eyes – as well as those of many U.S. contemporary art fans alike – to the enchanting art of Chris Berens. It was with his debut stateside exhibit, Go West (covered), hosted by the Seattle gallery where the Amsterdam artist first spread his wings and soared across the pond into the imaginations of countless collectors that immediately fell in love with his unique artistic vision. […]
