Our friend Oliver Vernon is set to open a new group of works at Denver’s David B Smith Gallery. Preview: Kris Kuksi – “Meticulous Engagements” @ Shooting Gallery

Kris Kuksi (covered) sent us some teaser images of two of the pieces he’ll have in his upcoming show with sculptor Christy Langer (previewed). Kris, who’s known to work furiously till the last minute making modifications to his elaborate and ornate assemblages, very well may have changed the pieces you see here by the time this goes to press; however, if this is any indication of what to expect from the artist, we’re rather excited to say the least. “Meticulous Engagements” will mark the two […]

Preview: Marco Zamora & Derek Albeck – “The Fool” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

The work of Los Angeles based artist Marco Zamora caught our eye recently as we noticed his show at Derek Albeck was opening soon. His imagery of urban landscapes and the people that inhabit it are done monochromatically with interspersed splashes of color, leading to a nice contrast. The show opens tonight, April 1st, at the Fecal Face Dot Gallery in SF so we look forward to seeing how this body of work turns out. Some additional preview images after the jump…

Preview: Showcase Series: San Francisco Group Exhibiton for LeBasse Projects

You may remember us posting some photos from Melissa Haslam’s studio a while back.  If you recall, the pieces seen were for the LeBasse Projects SF showcase pop-up show (opening tomorrow) including some gallery stalwarts along with Haslam like Yoskay Yamamoto (featured), Edwin Ushiro (interviewed), Andrew Hem (interviewed), Alexandros Vasmoulakis, Nate Frizzell (featured) along with some interesting additions – Herakut (interviewed) and Seonna Hong! See more preview pics of the gallery setup as well as details of the exhibition after the jump.

Preview: Gregory Euclide – “What Was Still in the Pause of My Advance” @ Merry Karnowsky

Opening on April 10th at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles will be Gregory Euclide’s new show “What Was Still in the Pause of My Advance”. We saw a fantastic piece from Euclide at the Grammy show earlier this year and can attest to the complex textural and sculptural components to this paintings. He definitely pushes the envelope in terms of blending 2D and 3D elements smoothly, even bulging out some of the “glass” that encloses some of his paintings to accommodate some of […]

Husband and wife artist duo Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters (interviewed) are set to open their joint show this Friday night, April 2nd at Gallery 1988 in LA. When these two long time collaboraters are involved, expect paintings, sculptures, and some fabulous customs with their own signature imagery and characters. We are also excited to hear that they will be creating their largest installation to date! Some preview images after the jump.

Preview: Christy Langer – “Meticulous Engagements” @ Shooting Gallery

Sculptor Christy Langer sent AM an exclusive preview of a couple of her new pieces that will be featured in the upcoming “Meticulous Engagements” show coming soon to the Shooting Gallery. Showing with Kris Kuksi (featured), Langer’s resin, fiberglass and oil painted animals appear to be the perfect compliment to Kuksi’s minutia assemblages. Stay tuned for a preview from Kuksi as well as the show approaches. Check out the full preview after the jump.

Preview: Chet Zar – “Endarkenment” @ Last Rites Gallery

Chet Zar – the last time we saw his frightening work was in LA (covered), but now New Yorkers have a chance to see his work first hand. Gifted with the ability to paint nightmarish bogeymen and scary visuals, Chet is also one of the nicest artists around. Experience this seeming contradiction yourself on April 10th as Chet opens up a new solo show “Endarkenment” at the Last Rites Gallery. Take a look at more preview images from the dark side and some custom frames […]

New York native Justin BUA, whom we recently met at the “Who Killed The Music” Grammy Art Show”, will be opening his solo show (both old and new works) at the Pop International Gallery on Thursday, March 25.
