Openings: “Steer Ahead” @ Soze Gallery

Over the weekend, an exhibition to benefit CAMP2E opened at the Soze Gallery entitled Steer Ahead. Artists like Dave Kinsey (seen above), Victor Castillo, Cyrcle., Devngosha, James Haunt, Brittany Segal, Dan Quintana, Bon Nielsen, Gregory Siff, Aaron De La Cruz, Paige Smith, Kristin Bauer, RETNA, Sarah Sandin, Aaron De la Cruz, Bone Thrower, Cole Sternberg, and Fidia Falaschetti were asked to customize and paint real steer skulls and display it along with original artwork. Upcoming: Mobstr – “Sex, Drugs & Painting Canvases” @ The Old Truman Brewery

On May 15th, Mobstr will be opening a show (RSVP needed, details below) at The Old Truman Brewery entitled Sex, Drugs & Painting Walls Canvases. Known for his witty text based works in the streets, the UK-based artist will be transferring his aesthetic from walls to canvases. Rounding out the exhibition, which will run for less than a week, will be a series of installations. Discuss Mobstr here.

Armory Week ’14: Scope

One of the satellite fairs we make a point to catch during Armory Week is Scope. Hosting a variety of genres, the event featured a diverse mix of street art, low brow and emerging contemporary art working together as gallerists brought work from artists which you may be familiar with here on AM. Tonight in Los Angeles at the Soze Gallery, a group show entitled Steer Ahead will open to benefit CAMP2E. From 5 – 13 April 2014, Perth in Australia hosted Public, “a celebration of urban art and creativity” whose goal is to “bring to Perth and the Pilbara urban, visual, and digital artists from around the world.” During this event, around 45 artists from Australia and around the world, created around 30 large-scale urban artworks, transforming walls and laneways with street art, projections, installations, and public events. After traveling to Japan, UK-based artist Nick Walker (interviewed) returned to New York City for a residency that will lead him up to a showing in the Big Apple (more on that soon). French artist and globetrotter, Seth Globepainter, recently went back to Ukraine to paint more murals with his local artist friend, Kislow. While the eyes of the world are focused on this politically unstable region, the Paris-based artist and his Ukrainian friend decided to put some light and color into people’s lives by creating this beautiful mural in the Podil district, the old part of Kiev. Tonight in Los Angeles, Shepard Fairey (featured) will be opening a new show entitled 50 Shades Of Black at Subliminal Projects. The exhibition is centered around the third installment (also see 2011 & 2012) of new album cover artwork, a series of works that Shep is know for, inspired by the 12-inch record cover format.
