Showing: Aaron Young – “The Right Way To Do Wrong” @ Gagosian Gallery (Bevery Hills)

It’s not enough that Southern California currently enjoys perfect sunshiny weather while New York freezes. It also has to rub it in by currently being home to terrific shows with NYC-based artists Faile and Aaron Young – all under one roof.  Young, formerly of San Francisco and a Yale MFA, boasts a solo show in the first floor of the prestigious Gagosian Gallery in the famous 90210 zip code. Recently, AM visited the exhibition and would like to treat you all to what we saw. More […]

Streets: TrustoCorp in New York City

TrustoCorp, who we last saw in Los Angeles and Miami, has recently hit up New York City with a fresh batch of newly modified street signs. Now implementing government-grade reflective vinyl in all their work, TrustoCorp’s latest campaign blends in almost seamlessly with the urban landscape, yet still maintains enough of a presence to be noticed by the NY Post.  Word on the street is that TrustoCorp will be heading to San Francisco next, stay tuned!

Shaquille O’Neal curates “Size DOES Matters” @ Flag Art Foundation

NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal is known by many nicknames: “the Big Aristotle”, “the MDE”, “the Big Shaqtus”, “The Big Baryshnikov” and we can now dub him “the Big Curator”? Yup, “the Diesel” is putting yet another one of his “talents” (although sounds like he got some help) to use as he’s curating an exhibition this Friday, February 19th at the Flag Art Foundation in New York. On paper, Shaq certainly seems qualified to be involved with the show, entitled “Size DOES Matters”, as he’s definitely has dealt […]

Openings: Rob Sato – “Junk History” @ Giant Robot (SF)

Last Saturday evening marked the opening of Rob Sato’s solo show, “Junk History”, in San Francisco at Giant Robot. This was his second solo show, following his first one at Giant Robot’s Los Angeles location last year. Featured in the show were largest pieces he had ever worked on, which still required close inspection to observe every minor detail packed into the painting. On the opposite side of the spectrum were tiny works painted on slide film that were still in his signature watercolor style. […]

Showing: Miss Van – “She-Wolves” @ Merry Karnowsky

One the most well-known and celebrated female street artists, Miss Van, recently opened her show “She-Wolves” (previewed) at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles.  This new body of work featured the French artist’s signature “poupes” dressed up in animal attire although she seems to have taken it a step further with some of the characters possessing some very real mammary glands, demonstrated vividly in the amazing painting seen above (to the right). Strong images match an equally strong feminine strength that is typically evident in […]

Releases: James Jean x Pressure Printing – “Dive” Print

A breathtaking new print from James Jean (interviewed) was announced by Pressure Printing the other day for those with 2-4K to spare.  The ultra low editioned release comes in two editions (15 regular & 7 special) with the special version hand-embellished by Jean himself. For more details, including how to score one of theses beauties, check out the PP blog. More images after the jump…

ARCO Madrid ’10: KAWS

Opening his solo show at Javier Lopez was not that only reason KAWS was in Madrid this week. He was also exhibiting at ARCO Madrid, one of the largest annual art fairs in Europe. Although his new body of work at the gallery was more of a continued exploration of his current style of work, this piece for the fair takes his abstraction to a whole new level with an irregular canvas and blocks of straight color. Experimentation or perhaps a hint of a new […]

Videos: Armsrock – “Passage / Works” Installation @ LYSYD

Danish artist Armsrock (interviewed) recently participated in the Lightsound Project (LYSYD) in Copenhagen which included his usual life-size drawings and some fantastic light projection pieces (runs till the end of the month). If you recall, he also recently created some similar pieces for this year’s GLOW. Kai Schwenck recently put together an interesting video (seen above) documenting the entire process. Discuss Armsrock here.

Showing: “Meet Me Inside” @ Gagosian Gallery (Beverly Hills)

It’s been a big couple of months for Faile.  With so much going on, such as their collaborative show with BAST in London and their 10-year retrospective at Lazarides Gallery, AM is still trying to catch up with the scorching hot collective.  We recently made the trip to Beverly Hills to view “Meet Me Inside” (previewed), a group show at Gagosian Gallery, to check out their wood puzzle pieces, as well as other spectacular art work by Gagosian’s A-list artists. More after the jump…
