Andrew Hem (interviewed) is opening an expansive show tonight at LeBasse Projects featuring paintings, drawings, and sculptural work. Entitled “One Leads to Another,” the exhibition was influenced extensively by his recent trip to Cambodia. Through his artwork, Andrew asks what if the millions of people that died during the Khmer Rouge period, especially the children had lived on instead? How might things have been different? Mark Jenkins, who recently did some work in Moscow, will be returning to the States for a show at the Carmichael Gallery. He’ll be bringing in some fresh installation art like the “Spokes” piece seen above for his show entitled “Meaning is Overrated.” Definitely mark down January 21st and plan to attend the opening as he will be showing with another great artist – Aakash Nihalani. Ryan McGinley, famed photographer, but also aspiring feature film director, recently directed a video (watch it after the jump) for luxury knitwear brand Pringle of Scotland. It stars Tilda Swinton (whom McGinley has long admired) in a Pringle of Scotland dress and features signature McGinley scenes, such as forest, rocks, waves, and caves. Sorry, no nudity this time. Saturday night, AM had the pleasure of attending the openings of two exciting new shows at Chelsea’s Joshua Liner Gallery. In the main gallery was the “Further” group exhibition, which features Damon Soule, David Choong Lee, MARS-1, Nome Edonna, Oliver Vernon, Robert Hardgrave and Tomokazu Matsuyama. Seeing that Phil Frost’s epic show at the PRISM with Barry McGee is still showing, it’s good timing for him to collaborate with Undefeated, mega clothing and lifestyle brand, on their billboard project. Frost joins the long list of luminaries such as Kehinde Wiley, Robert Williams, Jose Parla, Os Gemeos, Kaws, and Raymond Pettibon in designing the sign above the Undefeated store location on La Brea in Los Angeles. Another show we are looking forward to in March is Andrew Schoultz’s solo in Italy at the Jerome Zodo Contemporary. Entitled “Crisis,” the exhibition opens on March 11th and will include this amazing large scale (11′ x 24′) piece “Monument Yard. (Monument to Turbulent Times)” which was about one and a half years in the making.
