Doze Green x City Center Project (Las Vegas)

The massive $11 billion dollar City Center in the heart of Las Vegas will be the most expensive privately funded construction project in U.S. History – a new mini city of casinos, luxury condos, theaters, strip clubs, restaurants, hotels, spas, and various amenities. Of that, “only” $40 million is reserved for a art installations by artists like Maya Lin, Jenny Holzer, Claes Oldenburg, Coosje Van Brugen, Nancy Rubens, Frank Stella, Henry Moore, Richard Long, and Doze Green. We’re sure Doze (who recently showed with the […]

For those of you into tribute shows, Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles has a show opening on January 9th that might interest you. It’s another exhibition in their series of “Under the Influence” shows and this time the theme is “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.”  Indulge in the nostalgia and take a look at some preview pics after the jump…

Video: Remi/Rough x Jaybo @ Projectroom (Berlin)

Remi/Rough, who recently participated in the Ghost Village Project and Jaybo, who we last saw showing at the Signal Gallery got together to do a little live painting session in Berlin.  Working in the Projectroom (looks like same place where Herakut live painted), the two artists collaborated on two pieces, switching between each one multiple times, and then donating them to charity.

Jeff Koons & Damien Hirst Prices Drop 50%

Two of the biggest stars of the art boom in the latter part of the last decade, Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst, were bound to feel the effects of the down economy. It’s taken some time to compile the data of all the fallout but it looks like their works have taken about a 50% hit in value since those happier times. On the brighter side, sounds as though the fairly or unfairly portrayed scapegoats of the art world’s extravagance should make a recovery eventually, […]

Video: Ghost Village Project (Completed)

Remember when we first told you about the Ghost Village Project in October of last year? Now comes the completed video of the massive project. Agents of Change asked the question – what do we do with a eyesore of an abandoned village originally built for 500 workers 33 years ago on the west coast of Scotland – workers who never showed up? Turn it into an art gallery basically – add characters that can live there to replace the ones that should have been […]

Dr. Sketchy’s Marathon (LA) @ Nucleus Gallery

If you have seen our coverage of Dr. Sketchy events in the past, you’ll already know what a great night of art and entertainment it is. The live drawing and painting marathon session will begin at 8:00 pm on Saturday, January 2nd and ending at 10:00 PM on Sunday, January 3rd. Over a dozen models will be posing in and out of costume […]

Releases: Mel Kadel x Uncommon

It looks like Mel Kadel, who recently had a show at the Fecal Face Gallery, collaborated with Uncommon on some pretty cool cellphone covers. There are multiple designs featuring her classic characters and patterns, some remixed in a fresh way like in the planets seen above. Take a look at some other options after the jump…

Video: (R)Evolution of Urban Art @ Warrington Museum & Art Gallery

The Warrington Museum & Art Gallery is holding an exhibition until March 13th highlighting some “Urban Art” from artists like Banksy, Blek le Rat, Gavin Turk, Adam Neate (interviewed), David Choe, Faile (featured), Lorraine Robbins, Antony Micallef (interviewed), Ron English (featured), José Parlá, Elbow-Toe (interviewed), Sam Taylor-Wood, Candice Tripp (interviewed), Swoon (interviewed) and Takashi Murakami – um, yes… Murakami. We believe the pieces are part of a private collection that also exhibited at the Stoke-on-Trent Potteries Museum & Art Gallery earlier this year.

Preview: Colin Christian – “Inner Space” @ Opera Gallery (London)

It looks like Colin Christian (whose art was recently featured in Kayne West’s concert) is planning to go big with his upcoming show in London at the Opera Gallery. “Inner Space” will feature Colin’s full-bodied sculptures of luscious girls in what look to be tight latex suits – completely understandable as he used to make latex clothing for fetish stores around the country before he started creating his own art. It also looks like he’ll be going large scale with his signature head sculptures (seen […]

Basel Week Miami ’09 – Kenichi Yokono @ Pulse Miami

We always look forward to the Pulse art fair because it is one of the only opportunities for those outside of Tokyo or Los Angeles to see the stunning carved woodblocks of Japanese artist Kenichi Yokono. This year at Pulse Miami, Yokono’s work was jointly shown by LA’s Mark Moore Gallery and Vienna’s Hilger Contemporary. Along with the new black and red pieces we previewed before the fair, the two galleries showed several works from Yokono’s recent “Dreamy Gaze” series, which featured lovely young ladies […]
