Scion Installation 5 @ Basel Week Miami

Scion’s renowned “Installation Art Tour” is now in its 5th successful year of showcasing emerging and established artists nationwide across various mediums: video, painting, photography, and etc. After its first successful stop in Detroit, the traveling tour made a huge splash in Miami during Basel Week. The opening reception was held at the plush penthouse of the Raleigh hotel. With most of the artists involved in attendance and all of the brilliant cutting edge art at it’s disposal, Scion definitely knew how to entertain the […]

Collector Focus: Amy Sol’s “Peach, Yoshi & Subcon the land of dreams”

One of the features that AM will be working on is what we will call the “Collector Focus” articles where we will take a closer look at certain peoples’ collections.  As many of our readers are collectors themselves, we thought it would be interesting to highlight some notable pieces in more detail for your enjoyment. First up is one of Amy Sol’s most recognizable pieces – “Peach, Yoshi & Subcon the land of dreams.” This amazing painting was exhibited at the “8-bit” show (video game themed) in […]

Dave Cooper x Danko Jones

Danko Jones – King Of Magazines from Bad Taste Records on Vimeo. Baby Tattooville alum Dave Cooper and animator Nick Cross recently teamed with Canadian rock band Danko Jones to produce a music video for their song “King of Magazines.” Oddly, this is exactly the sort of video you would expect if classic Cooper characters were animated – a bouncy lush world filled with his voluptuous and lascivious women strangely pulsating to the beat. Make sure you check out this interview by Hi-Fructose about the […]

Free Swoon print for Brooklyn Museum “1stfans”

The Brooklyn Museum recently announced the launching of a new type of museum membership program that builds on the popularity and connectivity of online social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter. Called 1stfans, the program gives members access to the museum’s First Saturday events, where they will be able to meet and interact with other members and museum staff. Also, 1stfans will be kept up to date with museum news and events via Facebook, Twitter and email. And for the formal 1stfans launch on […]

Group Show @ Lazarides (Newcastle)

Here are some photos of the group show at Lazarides (Newcastle) that has been running concurrently with the Candice Tripp show.  Although, some of the work is old, there still were some interesting pieces including this older style Faile box.  Other artists included Blu, Bast, Lucy Mclauchlan, Mode2, Antonio Diaz, JR, David Choe, Jonathan Yeo, Stanley Donwood, Kelsey Brookes, Micallef, Paul Insect, Conor Harrington, and 3D (Robert Del Naja) Rest of the photos after the jump.

Basel musing: Robert Williams’ Appetite For Destruction

This has been written on before, but AM thought that it was important enough to revisit. In the world of low-brow and pop surrealist art, there perhaps is no bigger name than Robert Williams, and Williams’ 1978 painting Appetite For Destruction is without a doubt his most recognizable work. People worldwide were exposed to Williams’ work when the paintings’ title and image were used by Guns ‘N Roses for their incredibly successful 1987 major-label debut (although the cover art was soon changed as many found […]

Banksy, or is it?

This sign with some Banksy imagery went up recently on Southwark Street in London. Speculation is that this is most likely just a publicity stunt by a company called The Bank. Although, here is another website with a similar logo… either a related company or perhaps there is still an outside chance this was taken by Banksy for an elaborate hoax. If this is indeed the start of a viral campaign by The Bank without Banksy’s cooperation, what do you think of companies subverting artists’ […]

Brooklynite Gallery launches online shop

Bed Stuy’s one and only Brooklynite Gallery has just added an online shop to their Web site, which contains a nice selection of well-priced prints and originals by the likes of emerging artists Ben Frost (pictured above), Remed, ZBIOK and others. The email announcement went out earlier this morning, and already a few pieces have sold, so it seems that at least someone out there is in the holiday shopping spirit. If you are still in need of that perfect gift for your art lover […]

Opening: The Piece Process @ Anonymous

A spirited crowd came out last night for the opening of “The Piece Process” at Anonymous Gallery on New York’s Lower East Side. The concept: connect pop/urban/graffiti/street artists from the last fifty years through an exhibition of their sketches, studies and preliminary works. Although some of the pieces seemed to represent the idea of process better than others, the collection of names represented was nothing short of impressive: from Ray Johnson, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat to Aiko, Judith Supine and the Clayton Brothers. Our […]

Creative Process: Eric Fortune

An artist you will be hearing more of in the future, Eric Fortune, has sent us some progression images of his latest piece “A Want To Believe.” Eric has a career in illustration but seems to be making a transition into the gallery scene with shows coming up at Ad Hoc Gallery, Cerasoli-LeBasse, and Roq La Rue. We love his elegant composition, delicate poses, and rendered lighting that seem to make his paintings glow. This will be the first of a series of “creative process” […]
