Streets: Blu & Ericailcane (Italy)

Do these two Italian street magicians never stop? After making a pit stop at the FAME Festival and the R.I.P.Arte Festival, Blu and Ericailcane are at it again – this time with a collaboration piece.  This looks like they are taking aim at a popular target – politician, bankers, and corporate types.  The octopus looks to be by Ericailcane and the rest by Blu. See the full mural as well as some in-progress shots after the jump…

Video: “Destricted” Trailer

The controversial collection of shorts entitled Destricted was recently released onto DVD. The US version which features famed artists like Richard Prince and Marilyn Minter as directors consists of an ongoing series of films that explore the line where art and pornography intersect. When the UK version was released in 2006, it won awards at a range of international film festivals including Cannes, but encountered some problems predictably getting released in the States until now. Video: Blu – “Big Bag Big Boom”

Over the course of the last year, we were able to see bits and pieces of the new graffiti-animation that Blu has been working on. Looks like all that hard work has paid off in a stunning new video – “Big Bag Big Boom”. Just like the original “Muto” and “Combo” (collaboration with David Ellis), the new work features wall-painted murals “timelapsed” into a sort of street animation with this new version featuring more clever interactions with the physical world. Check out his “unscientific point […]

Blu is one of those street artists that always makes an effort to create pieces that are socially relevant to the area he is working in (ie Milan and Taranto). Openings: Shepard Fairey “Supply & Demand” @ Warhol Museum

“Don’t pay any attention to what they write about you. Just measure it in inches” – Andy Warhol – a wise quote from the legendary pop artist. A quote which amid all the legal drama with the AP is advice that Shepard Fairey and museum patrons took to heart on Saturday when his “Supply & Demand” show was unveiled at the famed Warhol Museum. A special preview night was held to celebrate the second leg of Shepard’s 20 year retrospective and it seemed as if […]
