Coming up soon, Sonos will be releasing a collaboration with Barry McGee on one of their Play:5 Speakers that celebrates the release of a new memoir from the Beastie Boys. The limited run design features the Bay Area graffiti artist’s familiar pattern spelling out the name of the legendary American hip hop group on the front. Entitled Utopia, the 7 color screenprint will have a run of 115, measure 19 x 22 inches, come signed, numbered, stamped and feature one his collage-like structures inspired by his time spent with the textures and colors of the Central California. Tonight (October 25th) in New York, Joshua Liner Gallery will be opening their second solo show with Andrew Schoultz. Full Circle includes works on paper, paintings, and new mixed media American flags set against a backdrop of a hand painted transformed space. Using familiar motifs like colorful concentric circles, the all seeing eye, brick structures, clouds, serpents, castles, and the aforementioned flag, the Los Angeles-based artist continues to weave a troubling and timely commentary on the social-political climate and the economics of globalism & capitalism. We first noticed the works of Lu Pingyuan at this year’s Art Basel HK (covered), where he successfully introduced his Look! I’m Picasso! body of work. Half a year later, the Chinese artist has created a limited edition figure of one of the characters from the series, which will be available soon. The entire series was inspired by a single scene from the Toy Story movie in which Mr. Potatohead ends up with his features all twisted and says “Look! Streets: Okuda – “Air, Sea, Land” (Boston)

Earlier this month, Okuda completed his largest public installation project to date in Boston’s Seaport District. Curated by Justkids, the seven large-scale sculptures from the Spanish artist features his distinctive kaleidoscope of colors and geometric shapes. Air, Sea, Land is inspired by the intersection of elements at the dynamic waterfront neighborhood and continues exploring some of the street artist’s favorite themes – “the tale of life and coexistence, and the mythological edge where the animal kingdom encounters with the human world.” Discuss Okuda here.

Amsterdam’s KochXBos gallery recently opened a solo exhibition by local art hero, Dadara. On view through November 10th at Quint Gallery in La Jolla, Kelsey Brookes’ new show sees him take his work in a more dimensional direction. Fibonacci, Waveforms, and Capsid Symmetries continues the locally-based artist’s longstanding practice of looking to nature and science for inspiration. The painted freestanding and wall sculptures deal with viruses and the Fibonacci sequence, and feature Brookes’ signature psychedelic and colorful patterns.
