Previews: Mantis – ‘Epoch’ @ Hoxton Gallery

Following his last solo exhibition Altered State, South African born & UK based artist Mantis opens his latest endeavour Epoch tonight (Thursday 10th October) at East London’s Hoxton Gallery. With works in a variety of mediums and new paintings using his familiar ochre tonal palette, Mantis also suggests that attendees bring along a pound coin or two so that they can participate in one of the installation elements – his last exhibit featured adapted fruit machines, so expect some kind of interactive technology meets art clash. The […]

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 8 & 9

After a great first week in New York City where Banksy hit seven different locations over seven days (covered here), he starts off the week on Monday with a philosphical reference piece (Day 8). Then yesterday, we woke to find that the elusive Bristol-based artist had brought out the big guns – literally. For Day 9 of Better Out Than In, Mr. B gets a little more clever with an installation inside an empty lot in the Lower East Side near the corner of Ludlow & Stanton. Banksy sets […]

Two of street art’s finest have come together for a special collaboration for the cover of New York’s The Village Voice. Two variations of the cover were made – one with Banksy’s signature riot police surrounding one of Os Gemeos’ yellow characters and the other cover is the riot policeman in a sea of yellow figures each dressed in a vibrant outfit – some actually wearing shirts paying homage to some of Banksy’s greatest hits. Releases: Jason Jaworski – “1000 Miles” Project and Zine Collection

Los Angeles is famously known, substantiated or otherwise, as a city that is impossible to walk. You must have a car and everyone drives everywhere. That’s why heavy traffic is such a fundamental feature of LA. While pondering “comminuted substances of existence” and inspired by the binary code of 1s and 0s that account for all of today’s digital technology, Jason Jaworski organized, in collaboration with MOCAtv, a 1000 mile walk performance throughout Los Angeles over the course of 100 days, completing 10 miles per day. Throwing a dart on […]

Take a look at more opening night photos below… Discuss Gary Baseman here.

Streets: Cyrcle. x Woodkid (Los Angeles)

The always productive Cyrcle. crew has blessed Los Angeles with another epic mural. This time, on a wall provided by Branded Arts, the boys collaborated with Woodkid on a piece that is located on the hotbed art gallery Hollywood intersection of Santa Monica Blvd and Highland. Although it features the visual artists working with a musician, rather than being a marketing piece for a new album release or a advertisement, the work explores the aesthetic and concept of his music. It rewards followers and fans […]
