Setup: WK Interact – “WK 360” @ Jonathan LeVine (Pop-up)

Tonight, WK Interact will be exhibiting a large body of work at Jonathan Levine gallery’s pop-up gallery location that housed How & Nosm’s recent showcase. This show, entitled WK 360, is an expansive mid-career survey of the first 25 years that WK has created in the world of art, both indoors & out. AM joined the French-born & New York-based artist earlier this week as he and the gallery worked feverishly to put together this impressive showcase of the wild and ingenious “interactive” art work that […]

Openings: Logan Hicks – “Thin Veils And Heavy Anchors” @ L.A.C.E

Earlier tonight, AM dropped by L.A.C.E. Gallery in Hollywood to take in a solo exhibition entitled Thin Veils And Heavy Anchors from stencil specialist Logan Hicks. The new body of work filled the expansive showspace with two series of works – beautifully layered cityscapes & urban settings and novel new portraiture set against the backdrop of deconstructed architectural structures. Every piece was executed perfectly with stencil, spray, and etching thematically exploring the dual ideas of finally seeing things for what they are and keeping grounded. […]

LACMA Moves To Take Over MOCA

Back in 2008 when the MOCA was bailed out by Eli Broad to the tune of $30 million, there was hope this would stabilize the financial status of the museum. However, recent controversy over the direction of the Los Angeles institution under the leadership of Jeffrey Deitch as well as continued monetary issues have finally led to a formal proposal for a takeover by LACMA (which surprisingly came at the request of the MOCA board). Only time will tell whether the leanings of the government-funded […]

Preview: Kirsty Whiten – “West End Bestiary” @ Recoat Gallery

Tomorrow night (March 8th) in Glascow, Kirsty Whiten will be opening her solo show West End Bestiary at the Recoat Gallery. The UK-based artist has produced different series of provocative works in the past, but it appears this exhibition will be based on her set of drawings and paintings of unusual centaurs. She states “something about the bestial/male body meld is hot, disgusting and empowering all at once,” and we can see she certainly acted out her feelings about the subject in these new works. […]

JR x Bagua Footwear

Perhaps inspired by the shoes Os Gemeos were wearing for their opening in Los Angeles last year, friend and fellow street artist JR has produced some of his own footwear. Shoemakers Bagua recently teamed with the French photographer to create a pair of shoes based on his iconic eye as you can see above. Unfortunately at this time, they have only been made available to friends and family of the two collaborators. Via Hypebeast. Discuss JR here.

Preview: Seamus Conley & Peter Ferguson – “I Think We’re Alone Now” & “Black Jubilee” @ Roq La Rue

On Friday night (March 8th), Roq La Rue will be hosting the opening for exhibitions from Seamus Conley and Peter Ferguson. I Think We’re Alone Now consists paintings from the San Francisco-based Conley featuring of figures set against hazy and surreal backdrops that have a dream-like or sci-fi fell to them. In contrast, Ferguson is a painter from Montreal who combines the fantastical with scenes of explorers and adventurers, all rendered with the feel of early 20th century small town Americana. Previews: Logan Hicks – “Thin Veils and Heavy Anchors” @ L.A.C.E

Esteemed stencil and street artist Logan Hicks visits LA this week for an exhibition at L.A.C.E. Gallery. Entitled Thin Veils and Heavy Anchors, this latest body of work showcases the progression of Logan’s work from a professional screen printer into the artist that he is today. Using his talents to capture the lines of architecture in the streets to the curves of his human subjects, we enjoy the compositions in his works. These new pieces from Mr. Hicks tries to captures the journey of one’s […]
