Upcoming: Evah Fan – “What Have You” @ Park Life

This Friday, August 31st, following on the heels of the Andrew Schoultz showing, Evah Fan will be opening a new show at Park Life in San Francisco. The Bay Area-based artist will be presenting a selection of gouache paintings entitled What Have You featuring her colorful and often minimalistic imagery. Look for an increase in her usual size of works as well as the incorporation of collaged elements in this new body of work.

The Lithuanian artist has been recently putting up work in the streets of Penang, Malaysia that speak to his eye for placement. Streets: Miss Van & Dan Quintana (Los Angeles)

Last week in Culver City, Miss Van (who was in town for her show at Copro Gallery) and Dan Quintana combined their powers for mural at the Branded Arts Complex. For this wall, entitled The Big Bad Wolf, street French femme fatale and the Los Angeles-based Quintana created a scene involving Vanessa’s signature poupée’s posed with a large wolf. Featuring paintings, editioned works, as well as a book signing, fans of the artist’s kinetic and enigmatic work would do well to head over to the event (7 – 10 PM). Next month, starting on September 20th, Yue Minjun will be opening his first ever Hong Kong exhibition at Harbour City (site of the KAWS’ Passing Through exhibition in 2009). Update: Camille Rose Garcia

If you have been following Camille Rose Garcia’s (interviewed) work closely, you will see that some clowns have been making it into her paintings. As evidence that the artistic spark and inspiration can come from anywhere, she recently revealed in her blog that some clown dolls (seen below) she bought on eBay (after her show at Michael Kohn) have been haunting her dreams and henceforth appeared in her imagery.
