We’ve been busy getting ready the past few weeks for our City of Fire exhibition opening that happens tonight in Beverly Hills. Ai Weiwei x Herzog & de Meuron Serpentine Pavilion Complete

Recently, the 12th commissioned architectural project of an annual series from the Serpentine Gallery opened to the public. The 2012 piece was a collaboration between famous Chinese artist Ai Weiwei and Herzog & de Meuron, the same team that was responsible for the celebrated Beijing National Stadium which was built for the 2008 Olympic Games. Openings: Roid – “More Than Ever” @ TopSafe

Recently, the UK-based Roid opened his solo show More Than Ever with TopSafe London. The Heavy Artillery and MSK affiliated writer and artist presented a series of works featuring his progressive letterforms inspired by a diverse mix of “music, nostalgia from the 80′s and 90′s, manga, and typography” which builds on his recent showing in Los Angeles (covered). One of the booths we quite enjoyed at Art Hong Kong was the Elms Lesters showing with Adam Neate (interviewed). As we have stated many times before like at his exhibition last October in the UK (covered), AM is quite enamored with the street turned contemporary artist’s dimensional paintings. Preview: Maurice Sendak Retrospective @ AFA

On the heels of the sad passing of Maurice Sendak last month, the AFA gallery in New York has announced a retrospective in loving memory of the influential illustrator. The exhibition will open on Saturday, June 9th, the day before what would have been the artist’s 84th birthday, and will remain on display through Labor Day. The showing at the SoHo space will feature nearly 50 original works, including published pieces, conceptual art and a bronze sculpture.

After seeding his home city of Lisbon with multiple murals (here, here, here & here) highlighting his unique skills, Vhils (filmed) has opened his show there at Vera Cortês Art Agency. And, what a show it is! The comprehensive exhibition entitled Diorama devoted entire rooms to the various mediums the street artist favors for indoor work including mixed media on paper, metal, wood, and a new technique with styrofoam. Preview: Sarah Joncas – “Between Wind and Water” @ Thinkspace

Coming up in a couple weeks, the Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting Between Wind and Water, a joint show between Sarah Joncas (interviewed) & Caia Coopman. The Toronto-based painter will be presenting 18 new pieces, including the one seen above featuring her female portraiture. It looks like some of the pieces for this show continue the somber mood seen in her previous shot as well as adding a touch of mystery. Discuss Sarah Joncas here.
