Frank Faryab spends £2million proving oil painting he bought is lost JMW Turner masterpiece. The Scream pastel drawing on cardboard by Munch sells for a record $120 million at Sotheby’s. Speculation on who may have won it. Adjusting for inflation, the piece is not the most expensive artwork ever sold. The Getty cutting about 9% of its workforce in order to buy more art. For our streets roundup this week, we’ll start with this interesting new piece in Detroit. The mural painted by SEVER was taken from the Instagram feed of SABER (interviewed) and looks to be a tribute piece to some of the greats in the street art scene like Barry McGee, Os Gemeos, Kaws, Futura, and Shepard Fairey. Openings: “Go East” by Mark Moore @ Joshua Liner Gallery

AM recently attended the opening of Go East at Joshua Liner Gallery. This unique collaborative effort between the JL and the West Coast-based Mark Moore Gallery brought a synergy we were expecting with a fresh showcase of talented artists such as Chad Person, Feodor Voronov, Kenichi Yokono and Yoram Wolberger. With this exhibition, NYC attendees were able to sample the artistic tastes that have established Mark Moore as a key gallery in the Los Angeles art scene. Teaser: Tauba Auerbach – “Float” @ Paula Cooper

Tonight in New York, the Paula Cooper Gallery will be hosting Tauba Auerbach’s first one-person exhibition at the gallery entitled Float. The NY-based artist will be unveiling new Fold paintings alongside a new series of Weave paintings, presented for the first time in the United States. Also on display will be new photographs and sculptural objects, including Onyx, a deconstructed material volume printed and bound in book form. Art Focus: Eduardo Kobra

Brazilian street muralist Eduardo Kobra is the chosen artist for this week’s Art Focus. The Sao Paulo-born painter’s public art is sometimes politically motivated with messages on pollution, global warming, deforestation, war, and more although much of his work is nostalgic with the purpose to simply beautify the urban environment. He has also worked on projects with major corporations such as Coca Cola, Nestlé, Chevrolet, Ford, Roche, Johnnie Walker, just to name a few. More photos of his work after the jump…

Tomorrow night (May 5th), Known Gallery will be the place to be if you are interested in seeing the newest solo show from Dabs Myla. Break Night Lovers will feature the duo from down under’s cartoonish stylings executed in the form of new paintings, drawings, and installations. There’s a new contender for the biggest baddest art fair in New York City and it hails from overseas. The UK-based Frieze recently landed in the Big Apple and has incited excitement amongst the art community as it has brung many of the top tier galleries that didn’t participate at Armory Fair earlier this Spring (not to mention attracting great concurrent satellite fairs such as Nada & Pulse). Streets: Conor Harrington (Ireland)

Last we saw of Conor Harrington (interviewed), he was hitting London with an impressive new collection of paintings at Lazarides (covered) of which you can see the some of the photoshoot and photoreferences here by the way. While the successful showing was no doubt satisfying, it did not quench his thirst for outdoor work. On a recent trip back to his home country, he painted this new quickie mural outside of Lurgan, Ireland. Discuss Conor Harrington here.
