Openings: EVOL – “Repeat Offender” @ Jonathan LeVine

Last week, German artist EVOL launched a show entitled Repeat Offender at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. The Berlin based artist’s intricate stencils are often layered on found mediums such as cardboard and metal to create mesmerizing cityscapes and unique urban compositions. In addition to these, we also caught a rare series of photographs depicting his 2009 project at the Caspar David Friedrich Stadt, an installation in a former slaughterhouse in Dresden, Germany. Videos: Bill Plympton x The Simpsons

For those who missed the Simpsons last night, you might want to check out the video of the opening sequence above as acclaimed animator and cartoonist Bill Plympton was tapped to create the short. Joining other artists familiar to AM readers who have been involved in the show including Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf, Plympton used his distinctive style to put together a love affair between Homer and his couch. Streets: RVA Street Art Festival (Part I)

After revealing the first mural from the RVA Street Art Festival from Mark Jenkins (interviewed) as part of last week’s street art roundup, we now have even more photos for those of you not in Richmond, Virginia. Jeff Soto (interviewed) has sent us some images filled with mural action from the event, including this deeply personal piece he worked on. Teaser: KAWS – “The Nature of Need” @ Galerie Perrotin (Hong Kong)

After Passing Through Hong Kong in 2010 with the debut of his now famous massive sitting companion which has now also travelled to New York, and Connecticut, KAWS will be giving his fans in Asia what they have been jonesing for – a solo show. Scheduled to open on May 15th at Galerie Perrotin, The Nature of Need will feature more of the New York based artist and designer’s colorful geometric abstractions. Releases / Publications: Fafi – “The Carmine Vault” @ Nucleus Gallery

After a signing at Colette and Galerie LJ, Parisian-based artist Fafi will be hosting a book release party at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California tomorrow night, April 16th. Along with the meet and greet, fans will be treated to mini-show of her new work as well as some limited edition items. The new publication, The Carmine Vault, is a graphic novel bringing the French graf legend’s world to life while following a character called Birtak and his desire to join the Paris Opéra Ballet. Preview: “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me” @ Copro Gallery

As a followup to a similarly themed show last year, the Copro Gallery will be hosting Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me next Saturday, April 21st.
