We at AM luckily had the chance to witness one of Cai Guo-Qiang’s pyrotechnic displays in person when we attended the Mystery Circle event that heralded the opening of his Sky Ladder showing (covered) at the Los Angeles MOCA. Preview: Michael Page – “Élan Vital” @ White Walls

As we mentioned in our contest for a free Michael Page (interviewed) print several weeks ago (we’ll pick a winner in the next several days), the San Francisco-based painter will be opening up his latest solo show this Saturday, April 14th. Entitled Élan Vital, the new body of work to be displayed at the White Walls features Page’s exploration of the vital essence of life through his color-infused works. With only 10 days remaining before the opening of Cloud Theory at the Merry Karnowsky, Greg Simkins (featured) is heading down the home stretch on what appears to be a stellar new body of work. What up INTERNET!? Last week your boy… Hennessy Youngman presented a fresh show at Maurizio Cattelan’s Family Business Gallery. Initially invited by Marilyn Minter for an exhibition, Youngman decided to open up this opportunity to all the local artists to submit their artwork. The Northern Cali-based ABOVE (interviewed) continued his many travels with a recent trip to South Africa. On arrival, the street muralist turned his attention to an issue that he felt strongly about – blood diamonds – and went about figuring what the best way to get his message across was. Streets: Phlegm (Isle of Man)

Street muralist Phlegm recently came across an abandoned pool on the Isle of Man and immediately knew what to do. Befitting the location next to the sea and true to his longstanding love affair with marine imagery, the Sheffield-based artist painted a large sea creature with one of his signature characters in tow.
