Videos: Aaron Horkey x Mondo x Moon Editions – “True Grit” Print

Aaron Horkey fans out there, check out this new video put together by our friend Patrick Kawahara of a new limited edition dropping tomorrow (December 2nd) at a random time at Mondo. True Grit, produced by Moon Editions, is a laser engraved on Latvian Birch (dyed and laquered), in an edition of 33, 14.75″ x 36″ and will cost $450.

Today marks the release by Taschen of Mark Ryden’s Pinxit (the title is a playful references to both the preponderance of pink in his work and the Latin word meaning “he painted this,” which artists like Ingres and Rubens once appended after their signatures according to Erratic Phenomena). The publication is the most comprehensive survey of Ryden’s 20 year career and works ever and if the book to have if you are a fan although it will set you back a pretty penny. As promised, here are photos from the Ferrari x Marco Brambilla’s party that we attended earlier this week at Art Basel Week Miami. The centerpiece was the collaborative 3-D video installation from Brambilla entitled RPM (see the video here) that entertained guests from the worlds of art, fashion, design and music. Openings: Interesni Kazki – “Nothing Special” @ Mid-City Arts

Last weekend, Mid-City Arts located in Los Angeles, California hosted the first U.S. exhibit by Ukrainian artists Interesni Kazki. Titled Nothing Special, the exhibit featured a collection of work which mirror their big scale murals both in style and in theme. Divided into different color palettes, each painting featured topics ranging from religion to greed. With so much eye candy at the main fair, we had to split out photos into two helpings. Headlining this second set are these clusters from Bay Area legend Barry McGee at the Cheim & Read booth featuring some abstract representations of spray cans arranged in a new way with some novel patterns. Other strong pieces seen were a unique piece from Mark Ryden utilizing a new technique, an oil from Lisa Yuskavage, various shiny objects from Anish Kapoor, and much more. See it all […]

While AM is cavorting artists, fellow bloggers, and industry friends at Art Basel Miami Week, the rest of the art world is not coming to a complete standstill. For example, later tonight, Dec. 1st, across the pond at Onethirty3, Hush (interviewed) will be unveiling a new installation at a new show that will include videos and photographs that document the first year of the gallery and project space. The first art fair AM hit up when we got to Miami was the main Art Basel event. Because it was the special buyer’s preview, we saw many collectors (including us) rushing to their favorite galleries for a chance to buy works from their favorite artists. Last night, Wynwood Walls kicked off Art Basel Week Miami with an opening at their pop-up space with a show featuring artists who have participated in their mural project in the past including Ron English, Futura, Shepard Fairey, Swoon, Kenny Scharf, How & Nosm, Vhils, and more. Over the weekend, Shepard Fairey (featured) and the Obey crew continued their large scale projects by pasting over the famed Barracuda wall. Last time we saw Fairey working on this wall was late last year when he collaborated with SABER (interviewed) on a dual rendering of the American Flag (covered).
