Showing: Adam Neate – “Dimensional Paintings” @ Elms Lester

Earlier this week, Elms Lesters hosted the opening for a set of new works collectively and aptly entitled Dimensional Paintings from the inventive Adam Neate (interviewed). While his landmark solo in 2009 at the same London gallery introduced his fans to the new textures and three-dimensional aspects of his new work, this latest exhibition shows a maturity, refinement, and comfort in the technique that is evident in the impressive depth and complexity of the pieces currently on view. Nuart Festival ’11: Dan Witz

After reviewing the contributions of Escif, Vhils, David Choe & DVS-1, Herakut, and Phlegm to this year’s Nuart Festival, we can now report on yet another artist, Dan Witz, that made the flight all the way to Norway to get in on the action. The versatile street and gallery artist, who recently had a show in New York, installed his signature WTF series of works, which are updated version of his In Plain View and Kilroy Variations public interventions. He even included some updated old […]

Showing: Dan Colen – “Trash” @ Gagosian Gallery (Rome)

In anticipation of the ambitious Three Amigos three-part extravaganza – a series of three separate yet unified solo shows with Dan Colen, Nate Lowman, and Dash Snow at three different yet equally symbolic venues in Rome – Gagosian Gallery attempted to kick things off in advance with a solo from the one artist they represent; Dan Colen. Entitled Trash, the body of work is a massive departure from the body of work showing concurrently at Rome’s Palazzo Rospigliosi and stays true to its signifier in […]

PULSE Los Angeles ’11: Joshua Liner Gallery

After giving you an overview of the inaugural PULSE Los Angeles fair earlier in the week, we now focus in on a couple of the individual booths. First up is New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery, who was mainly representing Kris Kuksi and his intricate assemblages, Greg Lamarche (interviewed) who worked on a mural for the event, and Dave Kinsey who also painted an impressive wall at the Standard while in town. More photos taken for us by Carlos Gonzalez after the jump…

Openings: Erik Foss – “Avarice” @ Mallick Williams & Co.

Mallick Williams led off the art season with solo exhibition recently with a show coinciding with the 9/11 tragedy by New York contemporary artist Erik Foss. The show entitled Avarice is a series of over 80 abstract paintings featuring challenging tha status quo notions of propriety and function between the worlds of high art and downtown culture. The works made a powerful statement as they allude to the haunting images from the terrible events that occurred ten years to the date. Check out opening night […]

Previews: Frieze London ’11 – Ryan McGinley @ Team Gallery

Running from Thursday, October 13th to Sunday, October 16th over in London, Frieze 2011 is primed to kick back into action next week in Regent’s Park. Traditionally one of stronger perennial fairs, which will also see a New York version for the first time in May of next year, Team Gallery has become one of the compelling staples at the UK event. Much like last year, the New York gallery will be bringing some brand new work from their New York-based photographer Ryan McGinley. In […]

Streets: Escif & Ericailcane (Valencia)

Serial collaborator Ericailcane has instead opted to trade his Italian neighbor Blu for Spanish street art crusader Escif. Ironically, Blu and Escif collaborated together in Valencia on an impressive tandem mural back in July for Arquitecturas Colectivas. Quite clearly, the three artists share a tight bond and mutual respect for one another. With Escif’s recent efforts at the FAME and Nuart festivals, it’s hard to deny he more than belongs in the same sentence as the other two outdoor icons. This piece from several months […]

Preview: Ron English – “English 101” @ Post No Bills

Later tonight, October 6th, Ron English (featured) and the Post No Bills Gallery will unleash the artist’s next show entitled English 101. The exhibition will feature a large collection of limited-edition prints and other artwork which will surely please his fans and art aficionados who may not be familiar with his artwork. As always, English will present work which touches upon his pop culture sensibilities and point out the ironies that one sees in modern advertising, politics and current society. Here’s a sneak peek of […]

Releases: Tim Barber / FriendsWithYou / Harmony Korine @ Exhibition A

Members-only print house Exhibition A (membership is free and open to public) has recently released a host of worthwhile and affordable editions from a strong roster of contemporary artists. The first new release comes from their Feature Artist of the Month, Tim Barber. The New York-based photographer, who made waves with his breakout solo exhibition Untitled Photographs last year, plays in the same thematic realms as friends and contemporaries Ryan McGinley and Dash Snow. Untitled (bluff), which actually was one of the stars of that […]
