Over this past weekend, the POVevolving Gallery hosted Marco Zamora’s new artwork which continues to explore the artist’s fascination with the urban landscape. Featuring large scale paintings and a structure completely formed with cinder blocks, Zamora manages to explore what it means to live within the constructs of a city. As the doors opened yesterday on the largest and most important art fair in the world, Art Basel (Switzerland), the mood was buoyant as it looks like buyers have returned to the fray despite the still sluggish world economies. Nearly 300 leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa are expected to show the wares of more than 2,500 artists. Streets: Blu (Germany)

After his team effort with compatriot Ericailcane in Fabriano, Italy, the fast moving Blu has moved on to and completed the new mural we told you about in Germany. Wouldn’t we all like to chop off the Medusa head of rising gasoline prices? This wall was painted in Cologne as part of the Cityleaks Urban Art Festival which also includes involvement from Alexandros Vasmoulakis, Claudio Ethos, Faith47, Escif, Herbert Baglione, Roa, Sam3, Lucy McLauchlan and Will Barras among others. Openings: Ryan McGinness – “SponsorshipREDUX” @ Subliminal Projects

Last Saturday, Ryan McGinness hit up the final leg of his exhibition schedule in LA with a show at Subliminal Projects. SponsorshipREDUX is a remix of his 2003 show, where corporate logos were sized on the gallery walls according to their level of sponsorship for the exhibition. This time around, the logos (including ours), were deconstructed and the parts used as compositional ingredients in a series of four paintings and two print editions. Live Painting: Anthony Lister @ ProjectRoom (Berlin)

Aussie street artist Anthony Lister (interviewed) recently hit up Berlin’s ProjectRoom (Jaybo’s showspace). You may remember other events held there like the collaboration between Remi/Rough – Jaybo – Juice 126 or the Herakut live painting. Banksy – “Gas Mask Boy” @ Sotheby’s

What appears to be a previously unseen piece from Banksy by the general public has surfaced for an auction at Sotheby’s London at the end of the month. The piece created in 2010 and entitled Gas Mask Boy was probably acquired directly from the artist with appoximate overall dimensions of 27″ x 39″. Opening alongside Jen Lobo this Saturday night at Thinkspace, is the Ohio-based Scott Radke (interviewed). Featuring over two dozen pieces from the soulful sculptor, by far the most ever in one location, Burlap is a cant-miss show for fans of his beautifully grotesque works. As indicated by the title of the exhibition, many of these new sculptural pieces feature the incorporation of the specific fabric in the work, adding a nice new texture. Influential Mission School artist Margaret Kilgallen will be featured at the Ratio3 Gallery in San Francisco at the end of the month. Entitled Margaret Kilgallen: Summer / Selections, The show will feature works on paper and paintings on canvas, some never before seen from the late Bay Area painter. The selected pieces will be prime examples of her use of delicate and folkloric imagery and will be her first solo exhibition in SF in over 13 years. Don’t miss the June 23rd opening. Swoon – “Thalassa” Installation @ New Orleans Museum of Art

Look familiar? Yes, it’s another sweet installation from Swoon (interviewed), this time at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). Just as stunning as her light-infused piece from the Art in the Streets exhibition, this suspended ocean goddess is entitled Thalassa and is made of wood & paper and located above NOMA’s Great Hall with layered tentacles created from scavenged materials stretching to the mezzanine. Studio Visits: Ron English – “Skin Deep” @ Lazarides Rathbone Place

Last time Ron English was prepping for a show in the UK, he invited us over for a visit in his New Jersey based studio. Fast forward a few years, he’s moved into a large house in suburb of Beacon, New York.
