Releases: Luke Chueh – “Black in White (And Red All Over) Figure

Today Munky King will be releasing a new variant of Luke Chueh’s (interviewed) “Black in White” figure (first seen at Comic-Con). This version will be limited to 250 pieces and is hand painted to be extra bloody (hence the “Red All Over”). Dan Bergeron (aka Faux Reel) has a cool show at Toronto’s Show & Tell Gallery. The ever clever street artist created a body of work utilizing the distressed surface of the street and integrates them with the charm & familiarity of the human face. Art Focus: Jacek Yerka

We recently discovered the work of Jacek Yerka and we can’t get enough of it. The Polish artist’s paintings are filled with surreal visions of a beautiful world filled with landscapes and structures that the viewer wishes could be true because it would just be so damn cool. He cites cites Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel among others as having influenced his work and it’s not hard to see why. Take a look at more images from Yerka after the jump…

Preview: Damien Hirst – “The Souls” @ Paul Stolper Gallery

It’s become more than apparent now that Damien Hirst has  a thing for the fragile beauty of butterflies.  They will completely take over his next show “The Souls”, which will feature 120 vibrant foilblock butterfly prints.  The exhibition in total is made up of 4 butterflies, in 80 different colourways, each one in an edition of 15 and rumored to cost £3,000 each.  Flutter over to Paul Stolper Gallery starting Oct 7 to check them out. Openings: Dirk Skreber – “New Works” @ Blum & Poe

Long-time Blum & Poe artist Dirk Skreber makes his long-awaited return to the distinguished Los Angeles gallery.  This is his fourth solo exhibition at the Culver City institution.  The show features portraits of models created with foam tape laid above panels rolled with varnish, polyurethane, watercolor, enamel, spray paint, fluorescent paint and primer.  The artist burns or tears away the foam to reveal each image.  Conspicuously absent in the paintings is oil paint or any kind of brushwork, giving the works a sense of psychological […]

Openings: “Beyond The Street” Book Signing @ Subliminal Projects

Subliminal Projects was the host venue for a joint event on Thursday, September 16th: the Los Angeles launch and signing for the book Beyond the Street, followed by the opening reception for Shepard Fairey’s Printed Matters exhibition (covered). Our friend Candice Tripp (interviewed) has some very special limited prints that she hand touched for sale available here.  There are two different images, each in an edition of 10.  The first is “The Patio” and the second “And One Day Blimp Cat Floated Away”.  Candice took the time to hand embellish each one with metallic paints and other details.
