Preview: BLAB! Show @ Copro Gallery

Another great group show is opening this weekend at the Copro Gallery. For the sixth time, the Los Angeles space will host a show featuring artists from BLAB!, the annual anthology of comics, illustration, and graphic design from Monte Beauchamp. This time, the book will be reformatted with the new official title being BLABWORLD (scenes from THE HEREAFTER). Last Saturday in Paris, a special show from Brendan Monroe (interviewed) and Evah Fan opened at Galerie L.J. The American duo each brought separate bodies of work entitled “Figments” and “Come What May” respectively and both included paintings as well as sculptural works. As Brendan mentioned in our preview for his show, he has included some painted landscapes for the characters and faces that reappear in his work and we think these turned out incredibly well. Yoshitomo Nara Statues Up in New York

Over the weekend, New York was gifted two new sculptural installations from Yoshitomo Nara, placed in conjunction with his retrospective at the Asia Society, set to open on September 9th. The pair of 12-foot-high fiberglass dogs are on the Upper East Side (one across from the entrance to the Asia Society and the other just in front of the Park Avenue Armory) and will stand guard throughout the exhibition set to run until the beginning of next year. Last Friday, Sarah Joncas (interviewed) trekked down all the way from Ontario, Canada to attend the opening of her solo show at the Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. Her newest body of work, “Siren”, is inspired by the seduction and romance of music and includes a large-scale mural, the timelapse of which we showed you last week. Streets: LUDO in Paris

After visiting the Atlantik Wall and dropping off some well-armed insects for battle, Paris-based street artist LUDO (interviewed) returned home and put up some more subtle work. The details behind this video are a little bit murky, but what we like about it is that we get to see the elusive Poster Boy or one of the members of his “collective” in action. Although we don’t especially find these particular works that impressive, seeing that razor blade in action is pretty cool.
