Proving home is where the heart is, it must have been a special moment a couple weeks ago when Aaron Horkey opened his retrospective entitled “Midwestern Heart” in his hometown at the Remick Gallery. With many of the past beloved prints and works from the famed illustrator on display, about the only piece of new art was above show poster above that shows off Horkey’s renowned typography skills. Aaron Horkey, well known for his work on rock posters, intricate silkscreens, and Burlesque Design, is set to open a retrospective at the Remick Gallery in Minnesota on September 12th. The show in his hometown, which will include prints and originals from 2003-2010, is rumored to be the last from the popular Midwest artist and has many of his fans traveling long distances to attend the opening. Hi-Fructose recently gave us a peek at the new Aaron Horkey release, dropping early tomorrow (Friday, June 18th) through Dead Arts Publishing. Consisting of three older images in their original black and white format, as well as a new chess themed print, “The Rook”, the set is printed exclusively as letterpress editions and looks to have all the bells and whistles that we saw for his last Dead Man release. Two of our favorite artists from the contemporary rock poster renaissance currently underway, Aaron Horkey and Jay Ryan, have just released a collaborative 25-color screenprint entitled “Versus”. The print, who’s layers were hand separated (no computers used!), measures in a just a little over 12″ x 29″ and is currently available here.
