Showing: Amanda Marie – “Make Believe” & Hyland Mather – “Receiver” @ JR Gallery

On June 3rd, JR Gallery in Berlin opened Make Believe and Receiver, a joint show from two artists and partners in crime, Amanda Marie and Hyland Mather (AKA X-O). Exhibiting next to each other, Marie will be showing her hypnotic illustrative stenciled imagery next to Hyland’s geometric bricolage assemblages made from found materials. Though very different in their styles, the works of the two American artists living in Amsterdam complement each other due to their folk art influence and the color palette used. With pastel and earth tones, both bodies of work […]

Updated: solidARTy.org (II)

We recently got an update from solidARTy.org that they are started another round of charity art auctions on their website. The project launched back in November by auctioning artworks donated by artists, galleries and studios, with 100% of the proceeds going to AreYouSyrious.org organization. So far they have raised over €20,000 for the cause and are now continuing their efforts by offering more original and rare, editioned work by world renowned street, urban and contemporary artists. Along with some of the pieces that didn’t sell previously, the […]

Openings: Mando Marie – “Long Ways” @ Svper Ordinary

It was a grey, rainy Friday night on April 15th when Denver’s Svper Ordinary unveiled the newest body of work from stencil artist and Denver resident Mando Marie (also known as Amanda Marie). The new work contains number of new images and themes, but features the nostalgia and narrative elements that she is best known for. Long Ways is a homecoming for the RMCAD graduate, returning to Colorado after a string of successful exhibitions across Europe and at White Walls in San Francisco. The show will be on display until […]

Previews: Amanda Marie – “Good Story” @ The Quin

On June 18th, The Quin hotel in NYC will be opening a Good Story, a solo exhibition by Amanda Marie. For her first big show in NYC, MANDO is creating a narrative that feels like a mid-twentieth century Little Golden Books children’s story. Though playful and cheerful at first glance with children characters at play, her works usually have a certain twist to them which adds a nice tension to her pieces. Utilizing stencils as her primary form of mark-making, the American artist has been developing her visual language for […]
