The man once mentioned as “this generation’s Francis Bacon” is about to have a show and AM can’t wait! Last time, we saw “Ant” was at Outsiders NYC (covered) and his abstract goodness delighted the New York crowd. His latest solo “Becoming Animal” looks to be EPIC! Steve Lazarides opened his new five-story gallery in Londonâ€™s Rathbone Place this week (originally reported here). Collectors, admirers and famous faces alike crammed into the new Lazarides location,Â which has beenÂ named “The Rathbone.” AM was at the private view opening on Thursday the 14th and the house was packed. The vaults under Waterloo Station have been taken over by artistic director Kevin Spacey and his team from the Old Vic Theatre for their latest venture: Tunnel 228.Â A very cool “pop up” art show and theatre experience that seems to have come out of nowhere. Last night, the Carmichael GalleryÂ in Hollywood pulled no punches with their all-star show, “Get Rich Quick!,” showcasing the strongest talents in the street and urban art genre. Some scorching hot pieces lined the gallery’s walls for the exhibition, including: a rare BanksyÂ canvas, a KAWS ad disruption, boxes and screen-printed collages fromÂ Faile, to originals by Barry McGeeÂ and Micallef and much more. Buy low, sell high… guess Steve Lazarides sees the recent economic downturnÂ as an opportunity to make some moves. The marquee urban art gallery from London has been busy in 2009.
