Iceland born artist Katrin Fridriks will have a solo show during Art13 art fair in London from the 1st until 3rd of March 2013. Circle Culture Gallery will be showing her newest body of work at booth H4 of Olympia Grand Hall, London. Fridriks is currently living and working between Luxembourg and Paris, and for this solo show she prepared different kinds of works that she will be exposing. Later this month, the ARCOMadrid fair will see Eli Ridgeway display all new works from Matthew Palladino (interviewed) at their booth. The SF-based gallery recently hosted Palladino’s solo show in 2012 (covered) as well as repped him at the Texas Contemporary Art Fair in 2011 (covered), so they are well aware of the hypnotic quality of the NY-based painter’s work as well as his intriguing plays on perspective. Now in its fourth year, the event was held in the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica with the participation of 70 top international blue chip and emerging galleries from around the world, with a strong focus on Los Angeles galleries. Basel Week Miami ’12: Paul Kasmin Gallery @ Art Basel

Another booth we enjoyed at the main fair this year during Basel Week Miami was the work on display from Paul Kasmin Gallery featuring an eclectic mix of artists like Ivan Navarro (above), Kenny Scharf, Walton Ford, David LaChapelle, Erik Parker, and more. In particular, we enjoyed the special section from Navarro which included a set of optical illusion-based works from the Impenetrable series (made from fluorescent lights, resin, mirror) that mesmerized viewers as they peered down into the “depths.” Discuss Basel Week Miami here.

It’s time to start winding down our Basel Week Miami coverage here on AM with another look at the PULSE art fair (highlights here). We’ve already shared photos from a couple booths there (Joshua Liner & Jonathan LeVine), and there is a look at a third booth – LeBasse Projects. We’ve touched on the work of Kazuki Takamatsu before here on AM in a couple group shows, but seeing an entire series of works at the Gallery Tomura booth at SCOPE Miami (highlights here) really piqued our interest. The Japanese artist based in Sendai combines the use of computer imaging with traditional techniques to create eerie ghostlike characters through the medium of acrylic and gouache. During our stroll through the seemingly endless array of booths and artwork during Art Basel in Miami, we were stopped dead in our tracks by the solo from the late Jiro Takamatsu at McCaffrey Fine Art. The influential Japanese artist was known as a writer, sculptor, painter and printmaker with this showing focusing in on his famous shadow pieces. After posting up the photos from Amy Sol’s (interviewed) solo during this year’s SCOPE art fair in Miami, it’s now time to share the other artist featured in the Thinkspace booth – Brian Viveros.
