One of the main reasons AM traveled to London this year was to catch the premiere of the Moniker Art Fair. The opening night was packed from the moment the doors were lifted with what seemed to be everyone we knew in the scene in attendance. The inaugural fair focused on bringing attention to the rising urban art movement and included galleries such as New Image Art, Carmichael Gallery, Black Rat Projects, CampBarbossa, Galleria Patricia Armocida and Anonymous Gallery. One of the highlights of our Frieze visit was stumbling upon the Stephen Friedman Gallery booth. As an unexpected surprise to us, the entire booth had been dedicated to an installation of David Shrigley’s work. Better still, David walked into the compound whilst we were there and started applying his temporary tattoos to a select few fans who had pre-registered – if only we were more on the ball then AM would be rocking some Shrigley ink of our own. To continue our focus on some of the most enjoyable elements of the Frieze Art Fair, we were drawn in to a room within David Zwirner’s booth dedicated to an installation of works by Marcel Dzama. A full sized hooded mannequin, complete with rifle, pirouetted in the centre of the room and drew voyeurs into a world of wonder from Dzama. We’ve been receiving some pictures recently from artists who participated in this year’s Stroke Art Fair in Berlin or Stroke.03, so we thought we’d write something up. We won’t focus on the fair itself but just the associated murals.
