Preview: Basel Week Miami ’10 – Matthew Palladino @ Baer Ridgway Exhibitions

To coincide with this years Art Basel Miami Beach, San Francisco-based Baer Ridgway Exhibitions will be showing a new body of work from enigmatic contemporary artist Matthew Palladino during the New Art Dealers Alliances (NADA) Art Fair. Earlier this year, Palladino made waves with his groundbreaking sold-out solo exhibition, Wonder Box (covered), which showcased the artist’s wonderfully warped visual language executed with near surgeon-like technical precision. With an aesthetic that loosely pays homage to the Bay Area’s Mission School movement, yet in a decidedly more […]

Teaser: Basel Week Miami ’10 – Ian Francis/Kris Kuksi/Tony Curanaj @ Joshua Liner Gallery

In what is shaping up to be one of the more dynamic and intriguing groups of artists to be assembled in conjunction with Art Basel Miami Beach, Joshua Liner will be exhibiting a talented trio with his booth at the SCOPE Art Fair, one of the most popular venues in the international art fair circuit. Marking it’s ten-year anniversary this winter, SCOPE is known for it’s cutting-edge slant, perfect for this trifecta of eclectic artists all at the forefront of their respective games. Abstract figurative/landscape […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Shepard Fairey @ Wynwood Walls

What’s Basel week without our friend Shepard Fairey? Fortunately, we don’t have to find out this year. He’s already down in Miami installing his mural inside the Wynwood Walls cafe with imagery including “Peace Elephant” and “Mujer Fatal”.  More image of the completed mural after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’10: Ron English @ Wynwood Walls

With December just around the corner, you know that AM is itching to get to Basel week down in Miami. Fortunately, Ron English took to recon duty and is currently down in Florida creating this beauty. During last year’s Basel festivities you may remember that Ron created a mural for Primary Flight. This year, he’s working on his contribution to Wynwood Walls sponsored by Tony Goldman. We’re counting the days until we get down to Miami to bring you our annual on-site coverage from Basel […]

Openings: Moniker Art Fair 2010

One of the main reasons AM traveled to London this year was to catch the premiere of the Moniker Art Fair. The opening night was packed from the moment the doors were lifted with what seemed to be everyone we knew in the scene in attendance. The inaugural fair focused on bringing attention to the rising urban art movement and included galleries such as New Image Art, Carmichael Gallery, Black Rat Projects, CampBarbossa, Galleria Patricia Armocida and Anonymous Gallery. Another nice addition was the artist booths that featured the likes […]

Frieze 2010: David Shrigley with Stephen Friedman Gallery

One of the highlights of our Frieze visit was stumbling upon the Stephen Friedman Gallery booth. As an unexpected surprise to us, the entire booth had been dedicated to an installation of David Shrigley’s work. Better still, David walked into the compound whilst we were there and started applying his temporary tattoos to a select few fans who had pre-registered – if only we were more on the ball then AM would be rocking some Shrigley ink of our own. Check out some of our […]

Frieze 2010: Marcel Dzama

To continue our focus on some of the most enjoyable elements of the Frieze Art Fair, we were drawn in to a room within David Zwirner’s booth dedicated to an installation of works by Marcel Dzama. A full sized hooded mannequin, complete with rifle, pirouetted in the centre of the room and drew voyeurs into a world of wonder from Dzama. Alongside the kinetic sculpture were a series of intricately detailed dioramas. One can only imagine the amount of time that went into each of […]

Beyond Eden ’10 / Video: Robert Williams Lifetime Achievement Award

To cap off the our coverage of the Beyond Eden Art Fair, we bring you this video from sketchv from the Saturday night presentation of a lifetime achievement award to Robert Williams. This giant of the Low Brow movement puts things into perspective by saying “…I’ve been coming to this place (Barnsdall Park) for 47 years and believe me, 10 years ago you couldn’t have this kind of art in this venue. Abstract Expressionism, Conceptualism ruled here until right up until recently. If you come […]

Stroke.03 Art Fair – Chor Boogie, Best Ever, Roa, and Alexandros Vasmoulakis

We’ve been receiving some pictures recently from artists who participated in this year’s Stroke Art Fair in Berlin or Stroke.03, so we thought we’d write something up. We won’t focus on the fair itself but just the associated murals. Perhaps the most famous one from this year was the piece seen above by Chor Boogie painted on a piece of the Berlin Wall that amazingly sold for €500,000 (read the whole story here). Other notable murals included pieces from Best Ever, Roa, and Alexandros Vasmoulakis […]
