Art HK ’11: “HONG KONG Terry Richardson” @ Diesel

During the recent Art HK ’11, controversial photographer extraordinaire Terry Richardson presented a body of Asian themed work, aptly dubbed HONG KONG Terry Richardson, with clothing company Diesel. The selection of toned down, while still edgy portraits centered around celebrities native to the city of Hong Kong. A book by the same name, produced in conjunction with Ooi Botos and limited to 1000 copies, offers up Richardson’s entire catalog of photographs taken in Hong Kong during his travels there. Consistently showing some of the best talent Japan has to offer, Mizuma Gallery is always one of the first booths we hit up at major art fairs. Art Hong Kong was no different this year as they brought along some of the brightest stars in their roster including Ai Yamaguchi (above) and Masakatsu Sashie (previewed). As you knew from our teaser article, we were looking forward to the Emmanuel Perrotin booth at Art Hong Kong because of what KAWS had to offer. But, turns out the gallery was showing many other artists from their roster including AM favorites like Takashi Murakami, Mr., Chiho Aoshima, and Aya Takano among many others. Using a unique four panel painting (previewed) contrasted nicely against a mural backdrop as the anchoring point in the booth, Martha Otero continued to supply fans of James Jean’s (featured) work more eye candy – this time at Art Hong Kong. Exhibiting with Mizuma Gallery, Masakatsu Sashie might very well steal the show with his newest creation destined for Art HK 2011, Asia’s preeminent art fair running from May 26th -29th.
