Recap: Futura x Crooks & Castles – “LEWDS” Launch @ Known Gallery

Last week, the Known Gallery featured the release party (with support from Hennessy) for a new line from Crooks & Castles designed by Futura. Entitled LEWDS, the collection (which can be seen in more detail here) featured the familiar text and atom motif from the NYC graffiti legend while paying homage to Christopher “Lewds” Natalio, the late Marketing Director of the streetwear brand. During the craziness that was Art Basel Hong Kong, one of the events we attended was How & Nosm’s debut & celebration of their Sake Art Bottle at HK’s Yardbird as well as the unveiling of two site specific murals. As previewed, this unique collaboration project fused the restaurant’s artist sake line with the iconic color & styling of the German born twins. Nychos For Volvo Art Session

Volvo Art Session is live art project taking place in Zurich’s main railway station that finds “selected Swiss and international artists applying their creativity to a Volvo car” The organizers of the event invited Nychos as one of the artists for their fourth year of the event. With the release scheduled for next month (June 17th), it’s time to tell you about James Jean’s (interviewed) latest project – working on Linkin Park ‘s new album artwork. Futura x Sprite for NBA All Star Weekend

New York graffiti legend Futura recently teamed up with Sprite to create three custom basketballs for the upcoming NBA All-Star Weekend. Two of them feature his iconic atomic imagery and pointman characters, and the last is inspired by LeBron James. Each one will be auctioned off after the All-Star weekend, with all proceeds going to the Boys & Girls Club of America. Tonight, February 5th (5-8pm), Stephen Webster in Beverly Hills will be hosting a new show from D*Face (interviewed) along with the US release of his new monograph – One Man and His Dog. Along with this signing session, a new collaboration print between the UK-based artist and his friend Shepard Fairey, who wrote an essay for the book, will be released entitled FACE to *FACE (Edition of 200, 18″ x 24″, $80). The UK-based D*Face (interviewed) will be traveling to Stephen Webster’s Beverly Hills for the US launch of his book One Man and His Dog on Wednesday, February 5th (5-8pm). Along with the standard edition of the monograph, a special box set (limited to 50, $250) will be available which includes a six color screen print. Last month, we covered the start of The Kobe Prelude Experience put on by the Nike Vault at the STAPLES Center. Since those first pieces were revealed by Allison Torneros & Kris Kuksi, other artists have created work inspired by key moments in Kobe Bryant’s career.
