Monsters are attacking Bergamot Station! Well, at least for the similarly named group show at Copro Gallery this Saturday night curated by none other than Travis Louie (interviewed). Well respected in the art world and a talented artist himself, Travis was able to put together an impressive list of participants for exhibition. Not only did he include regulars like Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed), Ron English (featured), Dan May (interviewed), Kris Kuksi, Chet Zar, Brian Despain (interviewed), Ana Bagayan (featured), and Tessar Lo, he also made sure […]

A little while back, we gave you a glimpse of a laser cut brooch that was to be released from Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed). Well, it appears that some were sold at her Space Yui show in Japan and one, much to Audrey’s displeasure, has even made its way onto eBay. What is even more disturbing is the fact that the auction lists the brooch as being sold out when in fact this item is not even limited in edition and will be released for $35 […]
Audrey Kawasaki’s (interviewed) show “Watching Shadows” or “Kageboushi” opened last night at the Space Yui Gallery in Japan. The exhibition included some of her signature paintings of dreamy-eyed girls, who have a sense of innocence, yet paradoxically possess a touch of sensuality as well. However, it seems that in this body of work, although subtle, her characters are maturing in front of our eyes, perhaps with a hint of what’s to come. No canvas pieces in this show, but Audrey explores her lasercut technique further […]
With Audrey Kawasaki’s (interviewed) show in Japan fast approaching, we would like to pass on the information about her two newest print releases. The first is an exclusive print for her show at Space Yui entitled “Carry On” (seen above). It will be released as an edition of 100 and priced at $440 framed. Not sure if they are selling to overseas customers, but you can contact the gallery for more details. The second release will be one of the pieces from her “The Drawing […]
One of our favorite artists, Audrey Kawasaki’s first solo show in Japan is opening this weekend at Space Yui Gallery in Tokyo. The show entitled “Watching Shadows” or “Kageboushi” will feature about 9 paintings, various sold-out editions, as well as an exclusive print of “Carry On” (more on that layer). Excited to find out more about the largest body of work (paintings) since her Italy show, we caught up with Audrey before she left for Japan and asked her a few questions. The answers as […]
Art tattoos have always been fascinating to us because it requires a truly hardcore art collector or fan to permanently affix an image to their skin. It’s an interesting completion of a circle as we return to one of this art movement’s roots – tattoo art. The movement has evolved so much to include so many different artists, that the term “low brow” is controversial now, but we can agree that the beginnings, by definition, included artists not respected by mainstream collectors and institutions, one […]
Here is a taste of what Audrey Kawasaki has been working on for her upcoming show at Space Yui in Tokyo opening on May 7th. She says on her blog that there will be about 10 paintings and drawings for the show. Looks like she’s continuing with the laser cutouts that we first saw at her “Drawing Room” show. Discuss this show here. Discuss Audrey Kawasaki here.
Audrey Kawasaki will be opening a show in Australia at Outre Gallery on February 13th. This will mainly be an exhibition of sold out prints (APs) with only one new original (in progress seen above). There will also be a new print scheduled for released as well. For our readers down under who want more of Audrey, look for a larger show in 2010 that should presumably include more originals. Audrey Kawasaki posted up a collage of images this morning on her japanese blog and we couldn’t help but notice another laser cut piece (NFS) in the upper right-hand corner. We first saw her use this technique with a piece from “The Drawing Room” show and then another piece from the “Clowns!” show. From what we hear, she owns a laser cutting machine… so look for more of these delightful pieces in the future. Take a look at the ones she has done so far […]

This print will have two versions with back to back release dates. -Friday, Dec 5th @ 9pm (PST) will be the release of the special edition which will be a beautifully framed 26×30.
