Anthony Lister – “Bogan Paradise” @ Gallery A.S.

Prolific Aussie artist Anthony Lister (interviewed) recently put on a show with Gallery A.S. entitled Bogan Paradise. After plastering Los Angeles with his work in August, this new show in his home country is staged in a recently de-zoned sex shop in Sydney’s Chinatown and challenges conceptions of the Australian identity – those attributes perceived as both positive and negative. In particular, Lister explores Larrikinism, “the name given to the Australian folk tradition of irreverence, mockery of authority and disregard for rigid norms of propriety.” More photos via Slamxhype after the […]

Openings: D*Face – “Burn Brighter” @ Metro Gallery

A couple weeks ago, the Metro Gallery opened their doors to the UK-based D*Face’s (interviewed) and a new body of work. Prior to showing in San Francisco, the talented Meggs exhibited the second part of his Inner Demons exhibition at Melbourne’s Backwoods Gallery. Similar to his showing in London’s Red Bull Studios, the artist returned to his home country to display a collection of paintings, sculptures and prints utilizing his signature wild strokes & splash techniques. Check out more after the jump.

Streets: TWIST & AMAZE (Sydney)

After stopping off in Venice for the opening of his latest solo show, Barry McGee (aka TWIST) appears to have continued his world travels abroad by heading down to Australia with long time friend and cohort Josh Lazcano (aka AMAZE). In a nod to arguably their most iconic collaborative mural composition, last seen at the famed Houston & Bowery wall last summer, the THR (The Human Race) crew members went big and bold in the Central Business District of Sydney. The minimalism of the mural, with […]
